abs sensor

back a while ago i replaced my front wheel bearing and in the process the wires for the abs sensor got tore in two. I soldered em back together and everything-no problem. well as time went on the abs and trac off light would come on every once in a while still. so i checked the solders and retaped multiple times and itd last a while and then id have to do it again. the last time i did it the lights wont turn off at all now. they are on as soon as i start the car as opposed to usually only when i start driving it. the connections should all be good. any ideas?

Have a scanner turn it off. autozone!

These lights don't set off any codes for the scanner to read therefore you can't turn them off with a scanner.
What im wondering is would moisture getting to the wires cause a big enough short to fry the mini relay or fuses or whatnot? and if so would that set off the two lights?

well,as far as the 2 lightswhen one of the lights turn on, the other will turn on as well, dure to the wheel bearing sencer. Moisture, road salt, rust will sit it off as well. Sometimes going over a very harsh roads such as pot holes could turn them on as well. they have been known to do this. I would look at the sencers and see whats going on in there. You might need to replace the wires you sawdered(sp). That could interfear with the volts, low voltage can set off a light as well.

but i thought the sensors were inside the wheel bearing casing?? i take it they aren't since you told me to look at them so where would they be? probably behing the rotor and everything...a lotta work to get to haha.
I didn't think that you could get to the sensors otherwise I would have checked for a good connection there a long time ago.
You know how many volts they are supposed to be producing...i could possibly check them with a voltmeter or something.

Im not sure of the volts, sorry. I seen the sencer right by the hub. i wish i had a pic to show you. check out autozone.com. they would have a pic for you.

see how the wires come out of the hub? isn't the sensor inside that whole assembly where i can't get to??

The "sensor" is nothing more than a small coil of wires at the end of the wires going into the hub. Inside the hub is a set of gear-shaped magnetic teeth. As the magnetic teeth rotate past the coil of wires, a voltage is induced in the coil of wires and is sent to the computer, which translates the voltage into speed. The faster the teeth pass the coil, the more voltage is induced. This way your computer knows to disable your ABS at low speeds. Hence, the term "speed sensors". So, your sensor isn't something you'll be able to see other than the connector end and the wires going into the hub.

You can check the integrity of the coil or "sensor" by using an Ohmeter. I believe the resistance (ohms) should be around 1k to 1.25k. If the ohms reading is less than that or your meter shows "OL" (which means the coil is open and broken internally or your wires are broken somewhere between the connector and the coil) then your sensor is bad.
