Ok so wife was driving the Tahoe, she noticed the check gages light had come on (god lover her for looking and informing) she checked the gages and told me that the oil gage was on 0 (truck running - idle) she was just down the street luckily and drover home - gage didn't move at all.
I have started it several times and let run in driveway - and a quick once around block - it has yet to do this again....
Question - is this signs of oil pump going out - or a sending unit.... or should I blow wad and replace both???
Thanks in advance!!!

I don't think it's the pump. If there really was "0" oil pressure the motor would make so much noise you'd notice it and it wouldn't take long for it to sieze up. If an oil pump breaks down it's going to stay broke down and not suddenly come back to life the next time you start it. Mechanically the pump is driven by the distributor, which is driven by the cam, which is driven by the crank. So, I'd say you probably have an indication problem. Sending unit, gauge or wiring. Since it seems to be ok now it's going to be hard to troubleshoot. Hope this helps...................Steve

Also check your oil level... and condition... as oil gets old it loses some of its viscosity (sp?) and becomes very thin which will lower your oil pressure... plus if you oil level is low to begin with then your going to get a really low reading.
