Hi, this is my first post after reading the forum for about a year, ( it took a while to get around to building anything.:) ) I bought the studio 27 wolf at the modelsport show in england a couple of years back, the body was painted so i got it for £20, so I figured I could have a go at a multimedia kit without the expense. After cleaning off the paint I was left with a nice clean lump of resin and a box of metal parts.

A couple of etched parts glued on:

the rear wing cleaned and glued together:

and a light coat of tamiya wolf blue,

the resin engine and gearbox were cleaned and the gearbox assembled,

I'll post some more pics when I'm sure this all worked OK, meanwhile any comments are welcome.

Looks like a very interesting kit and nice start you've made, thanks for sharing your progress with us. :) What are you using as "Tamiya Wolf Blue"? I recall the blue on these cars was extremely dark, almost black.

As Manu80 said, Tamiya TS55, decanted and sprayed through my airbrush, the colour darkens as more coats are added, until:
http://i157.photobucket.com/albums/t78/stu_davros/DSCF0389.jpg
the finish is not perfect, but OK for my first attempt at decanting spray paint.
started opening the front brake ducts,
http://i157.photobucket.com/albums/t78/stu_davros/DSCF0398.jpg
also painted the gearbox and started dry assembling the rear suspension, only to discover that the upper arms are too long:banghead: , should have tested that before painting.

any comments on the build so far are always welcome.

That's sometimes the main problem with ST27 kits. I trust them often too much and arrive after painting etc to have problem like with the suspensions or the barge boards, like on the AP04, sometimes the front wheels don't even touch the ground on their moderns F1. SO if you feel that a part will give you trouble , test it right away !

Hello again, I have finally managed to work on the wolf some more, finished painting the body and rear wing and applying the decals.
http://i157.photobucket.com/albums/t78/stu_davros/DSCF0409.jpg
Added the engine and wired in the ignition.
http://i157.photobucket.com/albums/t78/stu_davros/DSCF0416.jpg
The assembled gearbox and rear suspension was glued on, but I found the anti roll bar would not clear the wing support, so it was bent around the supports, also the exhaust pipes were very difficult to fit so that they were level with each other and cleared the engine and gearbox. They required a lot of tweaking and still only fitted very approximately.
http://i157.photobucket.com/albums/t78/stu_davros/DSCF0423.jpg
Also i noticed that the oil tank between the engine and chassis was missing, although the top of the tank is there.
http://i157.photobucket.com/albums/t78/stu_davros/DSCF0425.jpg
I made a simple box shape to fit in the gap based on the oil tank in the Tamiya WR1 kit.
http://i157.photobucket.com/albums/t78/stu_davros/DSCF0433.jpg
Finally I attached the front suspension and a few other parts to the Chassis.
http://i157.photobucket.com/albums/t78/stu_davros/DSCF0426.jpg
That's all for now.

This looks really good. I love the F1 cars of this era, and I'll follow this build closely.

Thanks, I'm glad you like it. I know what you mean about the cars of the 70's, I started building F1 because of the Tyrell 6 wheeler, the cars had character then. With modern F1 I can't tell a ferrari from a McLaren.:grinyes:

I was fortunate enough to see this car "in the flesh" this past July in St-Jovite.
I snapped this pic, maybe it'll be of some help to you. This is the only one I have of this particular car, unfortunately.

Thanks for the photo, it's the first I've seen of the car without the panels on, it really lets you see how uncomfortable the car must have been to drive. The water radiator on the front must have got incredibly hot and was just inches from the drivers knees.

Well after almost 2 years, 1 change of job and 2 house moves I think it's time to resurrect this thread and finish the kit.
There wasn't much to do when I left it in 2007, I swapped the studio 27 tyres for a spare set from a Lotus 78 and glued the wheels on.
http://i157.photobucket.com/albums/t78/stu_davros/DSCF0434.jpg
I used the seatbelts included with the kit and attached them to the seat after it was installed, which was probably a mistake as I can't make them sit properly in the seat.
http://i157.photobucket.com/albums/t78/stu_davros/DSCF0437.jpg
Next the wings went on, the rear wing was a bit worrying to put on the horizontal supports as the wing endplates had to be spread a little to avoid damaging the paint.
http://i157.photobucket.com/albums/t78/stu_davros/DSCF0440.jpg
The front wing at least was no problem.
http://i157.photobucket.com/albums/t78/stu_davros/DSCF0442.jpg
That's all for now.

and one with the WR1 I built several years ago.
http://i157.photobucket.com/albums/t78/stu_davros/DSCF0485.jpg
All in all I enjoyed building it, it had some problems.... well a lot of problems.... well it was mainly problems, largely due to my inexperience and not enough test fitting.
Having said that the fit of the rear suspension, the exhausts, the rear roll bar, the oil tank, the exhausts, the seat belts and the exhausts all left something to be desired, ( particularly the exhausts!) Still I have a few more of Studio 27 Kits and it hasn't put me off them, so it can't have been all bad.

Stu
