Evening all,
Just thought I would post and tell you about this. Unfortunately its not mine but a very good mate of mine has recently purchased a 1999 Black GTO. (no its not an MR before you ask)
He is a bit of an indecisive person. One of the ppl that changes his mind every 4 seconds about what car he wants. He started off leaning towards an EVO 8 MR due to the insane handling but was a bit worried about how the cars looks would age. Then he was thinking about a series 8 spirit-R edition RX-7 but was concerned about reliability. A supra fanatic mutal friend on our convinced him that a Supra was what he really wanted. Which it soooooo wasn't Completely different car to what he wanted. But he put down a search fee for them to look for a 2000 model RZ supra and was prepared to dump 45k on one when he got cold feet at the last second and cancelled his order because he wanted to buy a house and needed a deposit. Through this whole time I had been extolling the virtues of the GTO to him, which he really liked but didn't know anything about aside that they looked awesome. It didn't help that there were other people were going on about how unreliable they are despite them not having a f**cking clue about the first thing on a GTO other than "its a Mitsushiti" and other such informative comments.
Anyways, a few weeks later I notice a black 99 GTO pop up on an import website -very- cheap. I sent him a link to it making him aware of the price and comparing it to local prices. ie HALF F**CKING PRICE Needless to say he was interested... He gave them a call the next morning and put a deposit on it the next day. Enough crapping on. Time for the details.
1999
Black
6spd
93,00kms (highish kms but that explains part of the low price)
18" Red and black Advan 3 spokes
Kakimoto single exhaust (Is probably gonna be LOUD)
Pod Filter
Chrome Mirrors (bit iffy on how they look but meh)
Vented Carbon Fibre bonnet
HIDs
Most of the focus was apparently on exterior ricier mods on it that ruin the cleaness of it somewhat but its not too bad.
I think he only intends on going BPU+ with it. Nothing too serious. But that will net him mid-low 12s which is plenty fast enough really...
And here are the Pics

It comes in in about 3 months... Man I can't wait to see it....

Is it turbo? if so why no leather??? I thought all turbos weather here or there where leather save for the MR's. And i also thought the 99 bumper was US only thing?

Nice car!
And Dreamspawn....i always thought the only TT's without leather were the MR's too, but then i went to a car lot that has cars you can buy and fix up and right in the back there is a green 95 stealth TT and i looked inside it and i was shocked....it had cloth seats and manual climate control. It was nice and im sure that is lighter, but i would rather have the leather seats and digital climate...it just kinda adds to the car and seems right....But i guess i do have that in my 91 N/A so it should feel right lol

i dunno how he feels on those rims but in my humble opinion he should get far, far away from those, lol. except for that and a couple other bits of blatant rice, very nice car. the hood is uber sexy. those mirrors would look sexy painted.

oOo now i know lol and i would say they probably didnt' but imported some from japan which seems to be a common habbit there. Between them importing japanese cars and american cars i would say it would be a nice place to live except they get on alot of kewl games cases *banning some* and baning/baring some forms of metal. 2 things i love....

Yes its TT. Leather was an option on all GTOs bar the MR. The MR could NOT be optioned with leather and for the rest is was an -expensive- option. Thats why there arent that many GTOs with leather.
And the whole 99 bumper thing, everywhere got that if the car was produced in 99.
i think im right in saying that australia never got the 3/s, they were all imported after the fact??? i seem to recall the one guy ralliart3000gt saying that...
Wrong :) We got the 3000gt from 1990-late 1996. We can now only import GTOs from 97 onwards due to this fact. Previously we could import what ever we liked... :(

All of the times I have seen those rims on cars I have hated them. But for some reason there are growing on me on this car... Proabaly cuz its on a GTO :P I hadn't though of painting those mirrors... good idea. The bonnet I dont like. It doesnt suit the car imo. 99s need the clean look to them. A CF stock hood would look good possibly one of the viper ones too.

Yes, I have to say after travelling the world, I do think Australia is the greatest place to live, with Canada and NZ tieing for second. But whats this your talking about games and metal being banned???? First I have heard of it... I can only recall 1 game being banned and I thing that was Manhunt? (where your a psycopath killing everyone as brutally as possible) And I can't think of any music being banned...

Manhunt is great game though *yeah its morbid but hey* as far as metal i rember on google news or another site they raided a concert and arrested a metal band a few years ago. Somthing bout told not to perform a song and they did. I've herd a few bands had the cds denied b/c of themes etc.. Idk that and didn't they do a BIG crack down on Mod chips?

I am assuming your talking about the 180sx in front of the GTO. Yeah its probably for sale, but the next question is, why would you want it?? The only reason I could see for buying one would be as a cheap drifter.

They possibly did raid a concert. I dont recall anything about it but the song must have had racist lines or something equally offensive for them to ban them. I have seen Marilyn Manson and Slayer and such in concert before and they were fine with them. We're a pretty easy going country so it would have to be pretty nasty for them to raid a concert... Probably Rev Fred Niles's doing. He is a conservative dick of a priest that has been trying to get numerous things banned in Australia for years. The dickhead got the annual nude surfing competition banned....
As for the mod chips, I still have my PS2 modded... so do all my mates and the shop we got them from is still open... *shugs*

What I found is that Canada is sort of like "Diet America" It's similar in setup but just not so full on. Similar foods sold in the supermarkets, similar accent, similar cars being driven similar culture but everything just slightly less... in your face with everything. A bit more relaxed about it all. America got a bit on the wearing side after a while. Fun for a while but I was glad for break once we left.

is this in the us? i've heard that gto's and just the 3000gts in general were pretty hard to import. i can't really tell from the background if it's in the states or not. i wanted to know because, as i was buying my car [i wasn't too interested in 3000s until now] i started looking online for fun. i found a fckin CLEAN vr4, but it was in china. the guy had it shipped from japan to china when he first bought it. it's a 98. but then i heard it's hard to ship or something like that, and gave up on it. i cant say i really did my research though lol

gto's cant b imported into the USA for 2 reasons, 1) there is no registered importer and 2) they r too close in type of car as the 3000gt, government will just say no, go buy a vr4 and save some money.
importing gto's to other countries such as canada or australia is much easier, canada has the 15yr rule, so a 91 or 92 is perfectly leagle, and australia has far fewer rediculus things to meet to make a car leagle

Exactly. Don't you think it is kind of strange that EVERY single Japanese sports car just happens for produce 206kw from factory, despite having a higher octane fuel as the standard unleaded??? Don't believe the official ratings for a better and more factual representation on power, have a look at the torque on each engine. At least they are outright lies.

That had nothing to do with a gentlemans agreement. That was for insurance purposes. Hell even teh 03-04 Cobra were underrated for the same reason. They are supposed to make 390/390 when they are putting 360-370 to the wheels stock.

i think it was 280 at crank, and i'm not sure if it has been gotten rid of, i know the gto's and supra's and skyline's were still rated 280 in 01. ur close on when it went into affect, but 1988, when the concept for the nsx was released.
from what i understand, for american cars, there's no limitation, it's just that companies relize that insuance companies look at the hp that a car makes.
i pay 911 for my stealth tt with 300hp, i'm 20, and male(kinda profiling there, i know more women who speed then men). my dream car is a 911 turbo(u damn right i'll b red), a little more than 1.5x the amount of power, cant imagine the insurance on that.
and when u read mags that test car(c+d, mt or watever) the power is listed with an * then it's certified and the government will pass it on, there's no more hiding the poewr from insuance companies, they'll find it out

About 2 years ago. It was when they released the GTR Nur spec. That had 500hp or so. The Nur spec was the first, and I am pretty sure only, car to breach the 206kw limit. That was the last hurrah for the GTR and becasue the R34 was going out of production the did a limited run of the Nur specs from factory, purely because they could.
They got rid of the limit so they could release high end cars to compete with the likes of Ferrari and such. They knew they wanted to re release the GTR and supra and NSX etc, and 206kw wasn't going to cut it in todays market. Pretty much every single other car released out of Japan is still rated at 206kw. EVOs, STi, 350Z.... all 206kw.
And I am not sure if its supposed to be at the crank or wheels but I would be guessing crank. But we all know they are lieing anyway :icon16:

EVOs, STi, 350Z.... all 206kw.
And I am not sure if its supposed to be at the crank or wheels but I would be guessing crank. But we all know they are lieing anyway :icon16:

yea but also think, the 350 and the evo really only have around 290hp so really not that far off of 276. the sti is only 293 not the most commonnly thought 300
i think the nsx type-r breeched that limit too.
i do have a question involving the agrrement, was that all car's 4,6 or 8, could could go above 206 or just the 6 cyld. cause now just about every acura 8cyl and lexus 8 beats that, yes i both those cars are now sold in japan under those name plates.
in fact the only company who never shipped their luxery car her ewas mazda(eunos). the only thing that comes close would b the infini(or watever) rx7 from the late 80's.
by here i mean the usa

well one other main reason for the repeal was that the limitation was on japanese cars only. Cars imported into japan were not effected. In 1988 or 1990 when it wnet into effect, 280 was a pretty massive and uncommon number. but think of all the cars that commonly have 300+ hp today (Porsches, BMWs, Mercs)
im a sense they were only crippling their own auto industry.
