Does anybody have the factory alarm installed in their BMW? Do you recommend it? Or should I look at some aftermarket brand car alarm? What's good?

What do you think about Viper alarm systems?

Get the factory alarm. When I bought my 328i I had them put in the factory alarm. The car is already wired for it. They just plug in the module and you are all set. Aftermarket alarms are good but they may not work correctly in a BMW. Same as the remote starters. I paid 500.00 and I feel that it is well worth. I have had zero problems with it in the last year an a half.

I Like my factory alarm, has all and more options that a viper would of cost. Radar, tilt, flashing lights, siren, two remotes and no cutting wires and falls under your 5 year warranty. I paid $405.00 installed by the dealer.

Hi,
I just took delivery of a 2002 325i and had the factory alarm installed. I see no evidence of a radar detector (where is the interface for it?) and the owner's manual makes no mention of it in the factory alarm section.
Help, I'm confused and will be bummed that I just ordered a BEL 980 detector if I didn't need one.

It is not a radar detector, it is just a radar sensor. It detects movement in the inside of the car while the alarm is engaged. It is for people who leave there windows down. It triggers the alarm when the area is broken. Its kinda makes a force field inside the car, not detects police radar.
