Electric superchargers

Has anybody heard about these things? Usually in the $40-$100 range i think. I hear they can be built fairly easily for about $40. You supposedly put it in where the air filter is and wire into a 12 volt source with a rocker switch in your dash or somesuch. The ones i've seen on Ebay make about 3-4 lbs of boost and supposedly add 30-45 horses. Does it sound like it's worth a try? For that small of boost would you need to do any internal modification to the motor? From what it looks like in the auctions, you shouldn't have to, but i dunno.

It is just an electric fan. They don't help anything because the air is already moving faster then the fan.

In most cases they're actually counter-productive. the fan causes more restricion in the inake and reduces airflow, which makes the engine lose power. they'e just not powerful enough to increase airflow. (especially in a 350ci engine)

One of my old roomates at the dorms had a 3.8L Camaro (94 I think) and kept talking about how he was going to save up and by one. I hated the kid so I never did tell him differently and say not to get it.

lmao. well if all else fails..just mount it in a pod right next to the 5" shift light.. and you have porta-AC.

well if you do get it dont forget to replace your muffler bearings and your blinker fluid and repack your radiator bearings or it may not get its full horse power

they make your car sound like theres a loud ass cricket in the muffler :lol: . a friend put one on his old cavalier.

wth is that?? nothing for 80- 100 bucks will give u 40hp unless its an expensive bottle refill!! for all that u can mount a midget under the hood and he could constantly blow into it lol.....did that come out like years ago as a turbo or sum shit?? i remember talking about this in here b4. its almost like that one thing people were buying from advanced that was supposed to give u better gas milage....how sad!

and do not to forget to check your halogen fluid it is a bitch driving at night with low halogen fluid in your headlights.

I partially agree with most of these guys. most ebay electric superchargers dont work. plus i wouldnt use one unless its on a v6 or smaller. I did find though, that at hobby shops they can sell u electric motors that run at 30,000 rpm which i think said that would add up to like 1.5 psi of boost over stoichiometry. if you make a y-pipe on your intake and one goes to a regular intake filter and the other has two of these motors inline with each other; you might see results. they are only 30$ or so i believe. and they used a momentary on/off switch hooked up on the throttle body so they'd only kick on at wide open throttle. I think that way would be the most effective to see if u could actually get results...otherwise just get a boost gauge n hook it in n see if ur electric superchargers are pushin or not :)

they still wouldn't make a difference. anything under 5psi isn't really going to do anything.

and the drain on the battery and the power they need to run outweighs any power benefit.

they don't even make a difference on 1-litre engines, let alone something with 8 cylinders.

i've only ever seen one electric supercharger that made a difference. it was 3 motors driving a roots-type blower on a Sentra SE-R, total weight of the supercharger, motors, and the 4 (i think) extra batteries in the truck must've been close to 50lb if not more. made something like 12psi and could be run for 15 minutes before it drained all the additional batteries. made like 100hp increase in power.

instead, you could get something like a Jackson Racing blower, add 7lb and 200hp without the bull.
