Headlight problems

My girlfriend has a 1992 Grand Am and we were driving back from Washington and she went to turn on her brights, and the lamps died. All the other lights work (fog lights, parking, tail, and brights). She took it to a shop here in town and said it's the switch that's broken. It's going to cost about 300 dollars total to get it fixed, since it has to be done by Wednesday. I was thinking it could have been the circuit breaker, but the high beams still come on. Just looking for input and ideas before she spends that much money. Thanks in advance.

Welcome to AF.
The multi function switchMFS can be bad and still have some functionability, or none.
The part alone could be $150-200, I done know off the top of my head, but it doesnt take to long to replace.
