ok so i gotta 98 civic hatch with no vtec d16 and i'm bored with it now cause it's slow and i know making it vtec prolly won't do much but it'll be fun playing with it...so i got a little money at the moment and i wanna see if i can make it vtec...what else do i need other than a vtec solenoid?

A VTEC cylinder head (D16Y8 head). Around $100-300 for the part, depending on age/mileage; add labor cost as well if you don't want to install it yourself.
Note: "Playing" with VTEC will eat up more fuel than normal driving (under ~4500 RPM), so keep that in mind.

nope, get a DOHC block too if you want that.
