gas saver?

Has anyone ever removed the front drive shafts from the truck in order to get better gas mileage? Taking some travels this summer and looking for ways to increase the efficiency.

I don't think that will help on the gas milage. The full time 4WD's left us about '78. This front shaft should be like "in neutral" when the transfer case is disengaged in 2H and the front hubs unlocked.There is likely little or no motion in
the front gears or axels which is the drag resistance. It's spinning on the front hub bearings like a 2WD.

Pulling the front drive axles would be a really bad idea. Pulling them will ruin the front wheel bearings. The axle and the nut on the out side hold everything in tight and in line. And no removing them will not improve your gas milage as stated above. If you want to improve your gas milage use a lighter foot.
