Funny acting...

82 stang 302HO 4 speed.

Put battery tester on battery to check. Guage went from weak to bad and alternated back and forth every second or two. The driver door was open and the dome lights were blinking bright and dim during this jockeying of the guage. I removed the battery tester and the dome lights still alternated between light and dim. Key was in ignition, but not on. Dash lights don't work and car won't start( I believe battery is dead enough, will pop start). What would make the dome lights pulsate dim and bright like that?

Also try to start car and dome lights go dim, battery bad but what would make the dashlights not work? I've tried headlight switch, bulbs, fuses etc...What else is there?

what kind of shape is the car in and how long have you had it? poltergiests but more commonly mice and corrosion like to wreak havoc on your electrical system, have you restored or are you restoring this??

It's not too bad a shape, but the mice got in last Winter somehow. I fixed the battery problem, but have been baffled on the "no dashlights" fix. I've had the car maybe 8 yrs and they didn't work when I got the car then. Never drove at night much and only in Summer, so didn't bother too much. It does bother me that I've had it this long and haven't solved that issue yet.

Here's what I checked previously.
-fuses
-bulbs
-headlight switch
-pulled instrument panel out to check the bulbs, but not much else there to look at. Wires all looked very good from what I could see.

I wondered if there was a part to look at that I'm not aware of. I'd like to tidy up some of the small fixes I've been meaning to do before I sell my baby. I told my wife I would, but once I drove it again the other day, I started 2nd guessing my decision..........again.

i would suggest that if you are having that much of a problem with them to get a wiggy and follow the wires and find out where the power stops flowing, it sounds like you have a broken or shorted wires somewhere or just a bad connection.
