cv boot

How hard is it too replace a cv boot, never done anything with the drivetrain on a front wheel drive car before.

its not terribly hard, my older brother just had to do that, but it was cheaper or something he said to do the whole axle. you need some sort of special tool that you can rent at like autozone or advance auto parts too.

It's only cost effective buying the complete axle when you need a new
CV joint. The boot is cheap, about $15.00
One of the hardest parts is getting the nut off the axle shaft.
It's real tight, make sure you can do that first before proceeding.
I've never had to use any special tools but you do have to drive
the CV joint apart to replace the boot, a brass rod works best
but a wood dowel will work too.
You should get a service manual to walk you through it.
That'll help a lot.
It's important to replace a torn boot as quickly as possible.
If your boot is torn and you wait to long, dirt will get in there and then
you'll have to replace the entire joint. About $100.00, so then a
reman. axle ass'y is about the same price, sometimes even cheaper.:smokin:

thats true. I guess my brother had to do the whole joint not just the boot. I don't know, but it took him like 4 days and lots of whining to me to get it done. Like i can help when he's 3000 miles away haha. but right you are it is cheaper.
