Auto Tranny Problem.

I've got a 2002 Silverado 5.3 Yesterday morning I started up the truck to go on a day trip and my tranny started acting up. If i put it in D and step on the gas it doesn't want to go, in 3 it will but not perfectly, 2 and R work fine. I took it to a local tranny shop and the guy took it for a spin and concluded it was probably an electrical problem like a solenoid and could cost up to $500 to fix. Tomorrow i'll stop by another shop and see what they think. It doen'st throw a code and there's enough fluid in the tranny. Anyone have any thoughts about this problem ?

To correctly diagnose this a trans function scanner should be used during a road test, then solenoid functions can be tested as well as gear ratio errors and slippage errors.

Would a AAMCO use a scanner like that ? The guy I went to yesterday I think used a ODBDll scanner while the truck was off but the ignition on.

Any trans shop should have this, to properly do any diagnosis, A road test is necessary to confirm these functions as you can command these shift points and confirm their operation.

Well, I took it to another Transmission Place in town, figures when I drove there the tranny shifted fine. I left it there for the day and he called me at the end of the day telling me that he couldn't find anything. He did a road test with the scanner plugged in and some other tests. he said if it happens again to bring it back. So far it's been fine. At least he wasn't going to charge me $500 for ......?
