Air lock in cooling system

I have an 88 cavalier that overheated. I removed the thermostat and replaced the coolant. It ran good for a few days and then I put an new thermostat in and topped up the coolant. Now it is back to over heating.

Some of the posts say it could be an air lock in the system. what is required to get the air out? Non of them say how this is done.
