steering wheel controls

'99 lumina LTZ has controls on the steering wheel that work the factory stereo. I was planning on installing an aftermarket stereo and wondering if the SWC will still work with the aftermarket? When I bought the car, I didn't think I would use those controls, however they are quite handy and I use them all the time.
