I just got my 99 taurus 24 Valve Vtec I'm very happy how clean it is and the miles are realatively low. I was just wondering what are some of the comon with this car? I was just wondering what I should keep an eye out for. Or if there was somethings I could do outside of regular up keep that could serve as a preventative.

First off, it's just DOHC, not VTEC. VTEC is a Honda trademark for Variable valve Timing and lift Electronic Control. Your Taurus engine does not have variable valve timing.
Probably the highest dollar common problem with your Taurus will be poor maintenance of the transmission. If you don't know when the last transmission service (filter, fluid change) was performed, you should consider having that service performed. Also, if you really want to increase longevity of the transmission, you may want to install a transmission cooler at the same time.
Some other common issues are the front suspension components (although they're better on the 1999 than the pre-1996 models) and there have been a few folks having issues with the brake lines rusting.
With proper maintenance, the 24V Duratech engine should provide you years of pleasurable driving. That's a pretty good engine.
Enjoy!

Hey thanks for the heads up! I don't know what I was thinking calling it a V-tech LOL! I could not remember what it was called I just knew it was something more then a regular 6! I will take your advice on having the tranny serviced. I can't say that I could do the tranny cooler with out voiding the warranty. However I will baby the tranny and keep up on the care of the motor. thanks agian for the info! :iceslolan
