wierd science question=

98 lumina,3.1 litre. weeks ago, my shady tree mechanic put the wrong "o ring" where the distributor was. yes,it,s still leaking .he already tried to replace it . No Luck ! now he says it,ll be the whole manifold gasket job to get to it .my question = can he degrease the area and put a healthy dose of "liquid steel " all over it. should that do it if it ain,t under pressure?

Question... if he put wrong gaskest on, why cant he put the right gasket on?
and why would it need intake gaskets if its the dist. gasket leaking?

On the 2.8 i had, didnt have to remove the intake to replace dist. seal. And i made one from flat sheet gasket material, and didnt bother replacing the O ring, it never leaked a drop after. I think you either misunderstood what he said, or he is indeed "shady"

I think you either misunderstood what he said, or he is indeed "shady"it is my understanding that for him to be able to get to the "o ring" he needs to disassemble the manifold right on down. he tried unsuccessfully to replace the "o ring " already . my local chevy dealer sold me the wrong "o ring" when i was having the lower intake manifold gasket replaced . we used a "fel-pro " gasket kit. the mechanic said he had some "o rings " for auto zone? now i have oil leaking on the car port floor daily.

I dunno, all i can say is my 89 2.8 didnt need intake touched to pull that dist. piece and replace seal. If i remember right, pulled the throttle body and had clearance for it to come out easily.
And as i said, i didnt replace the O ring at all, i just used a flat gasket like other distrubuters had, and its never leaked.

If he knew what he was doing, he'd have also installed a small block Chevy paper distributor gasket in there to insure against future o-ring failure. If he won't fix it without charging you, you probably have no legal recourse, being he's a shade tree and not a licensed repair facility.
