i want to start by say'n that af kicks ass n there is tons of knowledge floating thru here!!"session :bandit: :smoka: :smoker2: :smoker:"
my question is b16 or b18 and why?
i choose a b16 due to the perfect rod/stroke ratio, but why a b18?
what r the differences between the 2 motors? is a b18 really that much better? if so why?
i'm not really intrested in turbo's or superchargers just want built to the hilt na motor for daily drives. no racing will be involved, just want that feeling of steping on the gas n fly'n down the back roads.

In general a larger displacement motor will yeild more torque. The rest is for me is availability. I can get a b18c,c1 easier than a b16.

i like the potential of a larger displacement engine. the perfect rod/stroke ratio isnt too big of an issue, especially if you are not going to put the engine through hell. keeping it NA is going to extend the life of any engine. the b18 was still engineered very well, and withstand just about anything you throw at it while keeping NA. availability of parts is anothe good reason. the b16 was only available from 94-97, then from 99-00, whereas the b18 was available from i think 94-00. this means more people buying more motors and demanding more mods. most people dont even know the b16 was around from 94-97. when it comes down to it, though, its all up to the person putting up the cash, so go with whatever suits you best.

whats up shep hope were at a truce man? that was a fun argument though.
I'm gonna say B18C but there are alot of b18's and alot of b16's for example I'd take a b16a2 over a b18a1 any day. But the b16a compared to the b18c..... the b18c dominates in most aspects-
92-95 civic Si R Si R 2 B16A- 5Gen-EG displacement of 1595 compression ratio of 10.4 : 1 hp of 168 @ 7800 rpm and torque of 116 lb/ft @ 7300 rpm and made in JAPAN kick ass motor, no doubt about it.
now the b18c 95-97 integra Si R B18C- 3Gen-DC displacement of 1797 compression ratio of 10.6 : 1 hp of 178 @ 7600 rpm and torque of 129 lb/ft @ 6200 rpm made in Japan as well
also lets not forget the b18c5 95-00 integra type R B18C5- 3Gen - DC displacement of 1797 compression ratio 11.0 : 1 hp of 197 @ 8000 rpm and torque of 134 lb/ft @ 7500 rpm made in Japan.
The b18c has a larger displacement, and csaddict I have a b16a that I will trade for your b18c? b16's are pretty easy to find for me and i can get them for a grand of under, GSR motor's go for around 3-5 g's. I need to know where you get your motor's? I'm being serious I want a cheap b18c....

b16a2 is my preferred motor, but what would the diffrence in price between b18c5 and the b18c1? i'm also a little confused, is the b18a1 the non-vtec motor?
what would the difference between the b16a2 and a b18c1 be?
this is my preferred price range. i already have a friend holding an a2 for me. what do you think i'd be better off with?
thanks

the b18a1 was a teg gs motor in 90-91 2ndGen displacement of 1834 and compression of 9.2 : 1 hp of 130 @ 6000 rpm and torque of 121 lb/ft @ 5000 rpm

i was gonna do an h22 to begin with but from everything i read it's a hassle to put in a civic, and i've also read that you lose handling due to the h22 offset in the bay so i'm a little sketchy bout that.
how much you think and h22a1 would cost?
i'm not in any rush to put a motor in my ride i still have @leat anothe 70k to go in my ecno box, but i plan on buy'n a motor now so i can finally do my own build and massage the internals a little bit. so belive me when i say that y'all will know where i'm at because as far as i'm concerened were all gonna do this together. i'm always looking at the big picture and filling in the gaps before i drop a mint on anything...
i'm also looking to have a high redline motor due to the fact that i'm keeping it na..
i to don't like buying offf the internet, but if it's a ligit company i dont mind to much.

my friend and I found an h22a1 for 2gs for my friends integra but the install was complete agony the drawback is your going to need new axles, shift linkage, and a special mount kit. 90 to 97 accord shift linkage should work though.

195 hp for 2g's sounds pretty tempting. axels n shift linkages minor details for an added 45 hp's vs. b16
i just recived a quote of $2300 for motor trans and ecu
how was the handling in ur friends teg after the swap?

thats enough to make me sway ..
did you guys do the install yourself?
if so did you use any manuel for it (ecu wires, vacum lines,)
without a doubt i will be doing this myself w/my father along my side, but he's a big domestic guy, so i dont know if that expirence really carries over.

ok ecu wiring is a bitch, lets see Use the civic harness, and ECU for the H22 (obviously.) The harness might have to be modified.
First of all, about half of the wires for the sensors have to be relocated/lengthened. This is difficult going into the whole thing blind, and you will spend a significant amount of time cross referencing wiring diagrams. Also don't forget to check your grounds I was stumped for hours due to overlooking this.- ok where was I? Oh yea wires to add -VTEC Solenoid: Grn/Yel on Prelude harness > Pin A4 on ECU // SENSOR LOCATION: Near distributor
VTEC Pressure Switch: Lt Blu on Prelude harness > Pin D6 on ECU // SENSOR LOCATION: Near distributor
Blk/Red > Ground
IAB: Pink on Prelude harness > Pin A17 on ECU // SENSOR LOCATION: Drivers side of intake manifold
Blk/Yel > 12V
Knock Sensor: Red/Blu on Prelude harness > Pin D3 on ECU // SENSOR LOCATION: Middle back of block
your gonna have to lengthen some sensors too.
IAT (GRN/BLU-RED/YEL): Too short, needs to reach drivers side of intake manifold.
MAP (YEL/WHT-GRN/WHT-WHT/YEL): Too short, needs to reach wherever on the firewall you mount the MAP sensor.
EGR Lift solenoid (GRN/BLU-WHT/BLK-YEL/BLU): Too short, needs to reach passengers side of intake manifold.
H02s (GRN/BLU-WHT/RED-ORN/BLK-YEL/BLK): Too short, needs to be run to O2 sensor, near oil filter.
IAC valve (BLK/BLU-YEL/BLK): Too short, needs to reach top of intake runners, in the middle.
ECT switch A: This will need to be extended to the thermostat housing on the passengers side of the back of the head. The ECT sensor and ECT sending unit fit fine (under the distributor.)
Alternator: The power wire on the alternator needs to be lengthened about 2". We just cut the one off the Prelude harness, and attached it to the teg harness with a large enough splice.
When you think you have everything wired up correctly, plug in the brick and turn the key. Have a multimeter ready to troubleshoot if you throw codes. Remember, some of the sensors may be bad so don't run yourself into a wall thinking you wired wrong. Although you may have.
comforting huh.
and half of this stuff I don't think apply's to a civic you may want to have someone do the ecu wiring.
use prelude vacuum hoses- its a big job - your father's work with domestics should be very helpful actually has he ever performed a motor swap?

lol good luck, and the fact that a type R powered engine would stay with a h22 powered engine is bologne, u put a h22 into a civic and a type r into a civic and race em and that type R's ass will have it handed to it. As for the h22 swap, yah its a cheap engine as in price wise, CAUSE no one puts em in there cars. Takes TOOO much work to re-weld frame mounts that cost 495.00 for decent ones, rewiring, re locate a/c if u want it, and u can't have power steering with the h22 in a civic frame. Lol u ever tried to turn an engine that big in a car that is too small for it, the over steer is horendous. Good luck there is a dude runnin that setup around here in a 98 hb and all i hear is complaints about his suspension and handling, coming from somone pushing an HKS coilover setup he should not be complaining and....HE IS. he has no complaints about speed cause his car "IVE HEARD" pulls 13.8 and i believe it. This setup is good for one type of person, a person that isnt goin ta use this for a daily driver and a person that has a lot of money. Cause I know how much we charge to put one of these bad boys in and its not a pretty figure.... Ta say the least you would be better off with the gsr or turbo charge whatever u have. So many people are swayin away from sohc, lol there is a delsol sohc here who pulls late 12's. He is doin fine, why not stay sohc?

h22a1 thats right I said an A1!!!!! their 97-98 prelude motor 5Gen displacement of 2157 do you know what the displacement of the type R is? all you have to do is scroll back.... compression of 10.0 : 1 (hp of 195 @ 7000 rpm) whats a b18c5 hp at rpm again(sarcasm) and torque of 156 lb/ft @ 5250 rpm and the h22a1 is in an integra! I realize you think ive tried to insult your intelligence but I really did wish to keep this forum friendly.. now stop forum stalking me. furthermore little of what you said in the last two post's was true or made any scence, perhaps you should look at the weight of the motor? Also due to the fact he has a light car this motor will benefit him in the long haul. sorry shep. didint mean to blow a fuse in your forum.

Well- judging by the some-what high numbers of Turbo'd B18C's around- they are the ones to go for if Turbo is you thing
B16a's are allrtight with small turbo's- but still a good N/A choice :D

He is doin fine, why not stay sohc?
h22a1 are cheaper priced motors, not h22a's and an h22a1 displacement wise is above a b18c5 or what you like to call it type r motor.... its an integra type R there's a type r civic that runs 184 hp 97 and up b16b civic, hybridsol is talking about a b18c5 there are also two different kinds of integra type r's one at 195 hp and one at 197 from japan. Also Ive done plenty of h22 swaps, you just have to know what your doing.

who the hell is this guy????
anyways. looking @ wiring diagrams 8 days a week i think i'll be ok:)
my father has never done a swap but has done a full rehaul on more that 1 engine. and for the idiot who said that welding a mount would be $500..if you own or have acess 2 a welder u don't pay shit!
i think the h22 is a great idea "bang 4 buck wise" as for the handling i have heard anything to bad yet, so if anyone reading this has an h22 swap in a civic how's ur handling?
hey sol??? flip on idiot's all ya want!!

seriously man just make shure you do it right, [everyone runs into little snags with any motor swap] try to make it as exact as you can, and it might take a week to wear it in. After that its smooth sailing. And no I didint run into any problems. It was a snug fit but that was about all.

just check everything periodically over a few weeks, but it should take only a week to wear the motor in to its full potential. (Driven regularly).
Its a tedious process but at the end when you see the finished product its all worth it. Plus you gain knowledge after each motor swap, good luck but you shoulden't need it your dad seems to be pretty knowledgable about cars and so do you with wiring.
thanks for the compliments and yea were both pretty good at anything honda/acura. Although you woulden't want to work with him on a swap he's too perfectionistic. Do all the wires really have to be measured before we splice them fitch? lmao its all in fun man.:hehehe:

where did u find a blown B18c5?
im looking into getting one but only if i can find one that needs rebuilding because im going to do all new internals on it anyway so why waste the money on a motor thats going to get rebuilt anyway?
i would really love to know where to find a cheap b18c5 or any b18c type

we found one of them (the c1) in a junk yard, the other (the c5) was shipped to me. After I sent an array of emails out to find my perfect motor. At the moment one of my friends in stationed in okinawa japan, so his location should prove to be a valuable asset in the future. My suggestions are to check out junkyards/ salvage, I seem to find that (one mans garbage is another mans treasure) lol
