Replacing an Instrument Cluster

I have a bad instrument cluster on my Dodge Caravan 96. Believe me when I say that I've tried everything to fix this. The hitting on the dashboard, the fuse thing, solder thing, etc. Now I've come to the point of just replacing the Instrument Cluster. I can get one online or at my local salvage yard from $40 to $100.

My question is this......Would the computer reset the millage that is store these used clusters? Do I have to take it to a dealer?

Thanks in advance.

Why bother worrying about the mileage read out? When you sell the car, you just explain "mileage unknown". You have a good reason, it's not like you tried to reset the mileage for shady reasons.

The computer will maintain your current mileage. No change. All the odometer does is show the information supplied by the ECM. If your van has the cheaper idiot light for oil preasure and charging, you can upgrade to the full guage panel also. The computer will supply the info for guages or idiot lights all the same. The only differance lies in the panel.
