A true DSM story... (sad)

Well my car was down for awhile with a few problems with the new built head. Found out the reason my coolant was pushing out of the overflow bottle was not because of my new headgasket install but because of a bad water pump seal. So I had a new waterpump installed along with a few other things.

Well I got my car back yesterday. I had the car for about 4 hours. Went for a test drive down a local interstate. Did a pull or two then ROD KNOCK! Yes less than 4 hours after getting my car from the garage all refreshened up and it takes a shit again. I am thinking that I may have overshot the hp rating of the stock 7 bolt bottom end a little bit. So my car sits at Extreme Motorsports in MD awaiting a forged bottom end install.

Literally... won't have much if any money left after this fix. Lets hope it lasts more than 4 hours this time hahaha.

Actually, I'm not sure. I only had the boost at 16psi. However, I did just have a completly built head installed with a nice set of cams. I'm going to take a wild guess and say it had to be close to 380hp at the crank. On the drive home from the shop I smoked a brand new STI so thats all I have to judge from.

Very true. My friend that was riding along when this all happened kept sayin wow your taking this pretty good. I figure hey, I'm still alive and its just a car. Plus its an excuse to fix it up with a nice forged bottom end :) Sometimes I just need motivation to fix things... guess thats why I own a DSM.

I would be willing to bet that the bottom end had a few miles on it when you did the top end. When you tighten up the top end the bottom will surley follow. I allways tell my customers that if you doing the top at least do a in frame bottom set of bearings.
