i am contemplating making my own 88-91 civic/crx forum....i was wondering if you guys would be willing to move over to a new forum, u could expect less down-time, i would try to keep ur post counts, and i would keep the same mod's (as long as they would agree to move) with an addition of myself as a mod.....anyway, vote on the poll and tell me what you all think

exactly my thoughs.......this server used to be pretty good, but then started gathering more and more traffic that there servers cannot handle, i cant blame them though, it must cost them a fortune to keep this place up (although im sure they make up for it all with all there banners ad's)

Banner ad revenue only really happens if you click the banner. How many people here do that on a regular basis? Truthfully?
Compared to the old server, this place is paradise. Going to any other publicly hosted server that cops the usage this place does would yield similar results.
If the community splinters, which it prolly will if we move again, then we all lose out. My suggestion is to stick with what we have for now - we've been through worse.

I agree with him, Hostboard went down for like a week or so straight, maybe even more....i dont really remember. I have to say though, we are part of the reason its so busy, this board get a good amount of traffic itself. We been here since 04-29-2002...i checked the first post. We are within 3000 post of the 92+ forum which oldest post is 12-13-2000. We have had 24343 in 6 months :) 92+ has had 27015 is about 2 years... So wherever we go ( if we do) its jsut gonna happen again most likely.

I guess if everyone else decides to move i might but it just seems like we are going to have the same problems we did at hostboard if we move again.:(

...there's gonna be problems anywhere, not necessarily the same problems...but there's always something.... like setanta said, the only thing that's gonna happen if you all decide to move is that we end up losing a bunch of people...

i already posted this in another thread so here it goes again:
first off, i'm not going to complaine. our old message board left us down for a month straight. i'm not into switching 4thgenerationcivic.com's forum. we have switched 3 times and we lost important people each time.
AF is going to have another server upgrade. be patient, please. for the amount of 4th gen memebers we have...this is the best home for us.
try checking out the 4th gen chat in the evenings! :)
newbies...you just have to take the word of the old skooler that this really is the best place for us. due to the volume of members, we have have server troubles no matter where we go

Do as you will, but the AF server problems are being worked on. Things just cant happen overnight.

I agree Ami, i'm not going to be moving again. This place seems perfectly fine to me.
If you get the server busy screen, Just try back in 5 minutes.
It's not like there is a rush to post or anything.

Ok i forgot to say this. I'm already on 3 different boards. Its not because its always busy here its because lack of tech questions. I go to honda-tech for that and i also love goin to civichatchback.com(ppl are kool there).

My biggest problem with here is when I post something really long...and click submit....and then i get the busy server message. Of course, when I push back everything that I just typed is lost...and I have to start all over. Sadly enough, I have started to copy all of my post into MS Word just in case it does that...that way i dont have to retype;) It's a sad state of affairs...but I overall do love this place...but i do also frequent honda-tech, superhonda, and occasionally civichatchback.

First of all, I will not be moving to another board in the near future. This forum suits me just fine, and they offer alot of extra features that most other boards do not (ex: image hosting). The "server busy" messages are irritating at times, and it's not like the moderators and igor don't have the same problem, so they know about it, and as Kris pointed out, are currently working on it.
Second of all, if you write a lengthy post, and notice that it's not going through right away, select all your text and copy it. Then, if you have to hit the back-arrow, and your text is gone, just paste it back into the reply form. No need to paste it into an external program...
Personally, I rarely have a problem with my text getting deleted, but it has happened, so I make a habbit of doing this when the servers get slow...

Here is something that you as members can request, by emailing Igor. Whenever you get a server busy message, it sucks, I know that, we all know that. So what you can ask him to do, is see if he will block the forums for non members (guests) from viewing the forums. Guest outnumber members by at least 2:1 sometimes more. This would really help ease the load on the server, and make it more accessable for those who have registered. This is a temporary fix, until we get the servers upgraded. At least I think it is.

I have to agree with most everyone in here by saying that this forum is a really good place for us and personally I think we should definitly keep with this one. I bet if we go to another one will miss quite a few things about this one as well as some of our members. Im stayin right here.

fishcat...try doing as ci5ic suggested. it is much easier. also, don't hit your back button. that is a sure way to lose the info typed. use the reload (refresh) button. when you do it that way your info is resent. when you hit back you are going back to the last page which is an empty thread reply page
i'm glad to hear some of you say you plan to hang in there. some people have made it through a few message board changes...it would suck if you left now :(
i know this is totally off topic but, WTF happened to jimj90? seriously. he always answered mail within 24 hrs (especially when reguarding his site). he just one day *poof* i hope all is good for him

and as for the "new" problem ... i would never leave this sight unless i have to. i love this place. i must have learned 80% of what i know about my car here. i say if you can make the server hold us better (with less down time) then do it.
