Help with Black Anodized

Guys,

I currently doing Rossi's 04 Yamaha, and I wish to do a Black Anodized look to the frame...

Does anyone have any suggestions on how I could replicate the Black Anodized look for the the frame?

Anodized metal look can be achieved by spraying a slightly metalic paint rather than clear paint. In the case of black you can mix a very small amount of silver with semi-gloss black (and I mean a VERY SMALL amount of silver). Was the frame anodized or simply painted black? I just painted the frame semi-gloss black.

I agree with you the black, but I recently purchased the Pitwalk photo-collection for 2004, and the frame does appear a little different to standard black (if that's possible).... I think I might experiment, as I don't want it to stick out too much.....

A pic or two of what you're trying to simulate would help alot. Black anodizing (and powder coating) can have many very different appearences- from shiney smoked chrome to flat solid black, depending on the dye and process. But there are also many different ways of simulating these different finishes.

The TS-71 Smoke is very dark, a few light coats over chrome or silver could work, don't go heavy with it, it runs somewhat easily. But not knowing what exactly you'd like to replicate, it is just a suggestion... - Mark

I simulate black annodizing a few different ways depending on the surface of the original part.

if the part is pre-chromed then I would first hit it with a semi gloss or flat, then go with a 25/75 mix of black and clear, respectively. or if you want to be safe, just mix a little black (10% or so) with your clear and build it up to the desired darkness.

if it's not chromed, I'd first hit it with some alclad chrome (following the application instructions with the gloss enamel black for a base) then skip the semi gloss/flat clear and follow the rest of the steps in the previous paragraph.

another way would be to spray gloss black enamel and spray a SUPER THIN coat of alclad chrome on it, then clear it.

there are lots of ways to get similar results. I suggest you experament on an old parts bin model to find which way works best for you.
