it appears intermittently, when i brake to stop that the engine idles at 1000 rpms at times then slowly the engine rpms decrease, could this be due to carbon buildup?

can you tell us a little more about the truck like what engine and auto or manual trany?I have a 4.3 liter fuel injection engine w/auto transmission, also since my first post i have had the transmission fluid flushed,in a seperate ? i would like to ask? if when you detach the hose that comes from the air cleaner to the tbi,if the engine should stall or seem to.

If the hose between the MAF (Mass Air Flow) sensor and the throttle body is removed, the SES (Service Engine Soon) light should come on and the engine might stall if the PCM does not substitute a known good reading fast enough.

Controlled by the idle air control valve on the side of the throttle body - dirty port or failing IAC.

The PCM is probably ok, they're pretty much bullet-proof and rarely have problems. As far as idle speed, is the SES light on? It may be that the TCC (Torque Converter Clutch) solenoid is slow to release, and may or may not set a code. Do the brake lights operate ok?

Do the brake lights operate ok?I'M NOT SURE WHAT THE SES LIGHT IS BUT IF IT IS LOCATED ON THE DASH THE ANSWER IS NO IT DOES NOT COME ON,AS FAR AS THE TORQUE CONVERTER CLUTCH IS CONCERNED,MY CAR HAS NOT BENN COMPUTER DIAGNOSED FOR THAT ISSUE,HOWEVER I JUST RECENTLY USED A CAN OF GUMOUT , SPRAYED INTO THE TBI HOUSING THROUGH THE TUBE WITH THE HOSE DISCONNECTED AND THERE SEEMED TO BE ALOT OF CARBON BUILDUP,A FEW DAYS LATER LIKE ABOUT A 1/2 HR AGO I WIPED ALOT OF WET CARBON FLUID OFF MY MUFFLER
AFTER I NOTICED A WET BLACK SPOT ON THE MUFFLER.EVERY ONCE IN AWHILE THESE VEHICLES HAVE TO BE DRIVEN ON THE HIGHWAY AND BLOWNOUT CORRECT?,ALSO THE THERMOSTAT READS A CONSTANT 155,IT SHOULD BE HIGHER,195 ,IN ORDER FOR THE ENGINE TO BURN THE CARBON OFF,CORRECT? I WOULD LIKE TO SAY THANK YOU FOR YOUR ASSISTANCE IN THIS MATTER.

155F is too low, replace the thermostat before doing anything else. The engine needs to run at normal operating temperature of 195F. That might be the whole problem.

Thank you,you confirmed my suspicion.after reviewing these notes,i realize what the SES light is and have never seen that light on while i have been driving or any other time, however next time i have the mass air flow hose disconnected i will look inside and see if the SES light does come on.
