Another CRX won't start.

Oh here's the story to this one. About two weeks ago a guy on my hall came to me with a dead CRX stuck in a mall parking lot. So Me and my friend started looking into it. Since then he bought a new car and we have come into possession of this one. While checking over the car, we have found that the car gets spark and fuel. It used to crank, but since the battery died last night, it won't even crank now at all, (yes we replaced the battery). When we try to start the car we get nothing at all. When we jump the starter it sparks and then spins like it should, but when we try to start the car we get nothing.
After talking with the previous owner, we found that it has a new motor, put in by his brother (not sure what kind of motor and not sure where to find that on the block itself). We also found that he's had this problem once before with it not starting, but it turned out to be just a loose wire.
ny suggestions as to what we should look for/check/do? Thanks

Well not that its TOO important...but the block code can be found just to the left of the exhaust on the front of the engine if facing the hood, just where the trans mates to the block. Also the year and trim level of the car can help, to know what engine you have and what had to be done to the car to get it in there.

Are you absolutely sure your getting spark and fuel? Double check all your grounds, including the one on the thermostat. Give your main relay a jiggle and try again.

merged into 1 and the spoils are deleted :naughty:
i have to assue the multiple threads were an accident. if it wasn't, please don't repost the same thing over and over as it will result in nobody answering. repeat posts get ignored by the members and deleted by the moderators.

Whats even funnier is that he just posted another identical thread today, completely disregarding this one.
EDIT: Make that 2 new posts today.

ha ha your too funny dude....just keep posting the same thing and eventually you'll get the response your looking for...if jumping the starter gets it to turn over will the engine start if the ignition is in the run position? if it started before and the problem presented itself once the engine stopped turning over for you it should still start if you jump it with the key in the on position....

also to be nice...check for cel codes on the computer under passenger side floor-mat.make sure spark plug wires are right in order, make sure timing is perfect, check for lose grounds.

I just looked in the forums and noticed that there were duplicate threads. I have no idea how that happened. I posted about it on monday or tuesday and haven't been back to it since, until today when I got e-mails saying i had a reply. I don't know how that it happened to be posted duplicate times, but I assure you I didn't so that.
sorry for the problems.

by the way i believe the alternator is the problem. just ni case any body cares

didn't mean to bust your balls....that post just kept popping up over and over...the car should start even with a bad alternator..as long as the battery has juice..explain yourself a bit better...you said you jumped the starter and the motor turned...did you actually put a jumper on the solenoid terminal on the starter..or do you mean you connected the jumper to the battery and it turned...I've blown a few alternators and the car will run til the battery is completly drained (my car will run on 10volts)

my bad..I just reread the post...you definately have a wire loose somewhere...if the battery is new and your not getting it to turn over when the key is turned the alt isn't the problem...you have to check continuity between the ignition switch to the starter relay under the dash...then from there to the solenoid on the starter...I'll bet the solenoid might be the problem...you can turn the key to the on position then look on the starter...the solenoid is on top of the starter and is clyndrical like the starter, but much smaller...it has two terminals and if you take an insulated screwdriver and join the two terminals..if the solenoid is the problem the engine should turn over and start with the ignition turned on...if the starter doesn't turn then you have a wiring problem between the ignition switch and the solenoid....most likely a loose wire or bad starter relay

Hey its all good, I don't know what happened, I would have done the same thing. Yea I agree, I was just trying to put all my problems down to one lol. Anyway we picked up a new starter last night b/c the one we had was fried, and it still won't even crank.
We've jumped the starter, by a) touching the two bolts together (the power bolt directly from the battery and the ground from the solenoid) and b) the power bolt from the battery and the smaller wire that clips onto the solenoid. and c) the solenoid wire and the ground wire.
with scenario A the starter spins but thats it. nothing else happens. with scenario C the starter makes a grinding noise. and with scenaior B we get nothing. I'm leaning on a bad wire connection or short or some sort.
For the starter relay, which relay is that? We don't have the manual so we can't look it up in there. Thanks for you help bro. Again sorry about the duplicate threads, I don't know what happened.

2 more things. 1 - how many volts should be running through the smaller wire that clips to the solenoid, not the larger one from the battery and not the ground one, but the smallest wire that just clips on the starter. and 2 - if the voltage regulator located in your alternator dies then your car won't start, you can jump it but it won't start on its own. that happened to me a few weeks back and i had to get a new alternator.

I have the same problem with my crx. New batter new starter full tank of gas. The car wont turn over. jumper cables dont work, but i can push start it. Any ideas, anyone. Im thinking its the main relay?
FrodoGT

Main relay has absolutely nothing to to with the starter motor itself. The starter relay, the key itself and the starter are your only points. Also if your car is equipped with a clutch safety switch that is there too. Happens to be one of the most common problems that everyone overlooks when their car wont crank..little plastic plug piece falls off the clutch pedal and the assembly fails to engage the safety switch. Reach up under the dash and press the switch with your hand and turn the car over.

so, it was the main relay. Not enouth voltage was being passed. I had a reading of 10 volts. Explain that...
FrodoGT

Only thing the main relay will do is put power to the injectors, the ecu, the fuel pump relay and a couple other things that rely on that 12v circuit that you can find throughout the car as a black wire with yellow stripe. At the ecu its a yellow wire with black stripe.
