Air bag light

Sometimes my airbag light comes on and stays on. Sometimes it does not come on at all. What does this mean?
I have a 97 grand Prix se with 152,000 miles on it. I have only had it for three months (give or take a little time).
Any suggestions would be appreciated.

You may have a bad connection somewhere. When you start your car the computer does a diagnostic on the air bag circuit. If there is something wrong then the light will come on. Since you have an intermittant light you may have a loose wire or bad connection. Have a dealer or mechanic check it for you. An airbag capable scan tool can usually pinpoint the issue fairly easily.

If you just recently bought this car, the chances are good that the used car people have washed the carpets and cleaned them thoroughly. Whe they do this they get so much water in the carpet and insulation that it actually begins to rot the airbag computer which is liocated under the passengers seat.
Once this happens, failure like yours occur and potentially can cause an airbag deployment with no warning.
As mentioned above, a scan will report stored codes, but I would look under the seat as my primary focus
