Fuel Pump? Express 2002

I have a 2002 Express Conversion Van. For a few weeks, the car started sporatically. Then, after taking my son to soccer, it wouldn't start again.
I had it towed to a local dealer who said it would cost 900.00 to replace the fuel pump?
Does this sound correct? Can I replace it myself? Where can I get an instruction manual?
Thanks:banghead:

Welcome to AF.
Yes dealer prices may be that high.
But if you check around you can find the dealer OEM type AC Delco fuel pump modules in the 300 dollar range.
Put it in yourself and save around 600 dollars.
Or even a good repair shop should do it for a couple of hr labor.

But even if the dealer says fuel pump I would do some proper testing to make sure.
Does the fuel pump run. If so what is the fuel pressure?
If not check voltage to it.
Is it getting 12 volts to it on the gray fuel pump wire from fuel pump relay to fuel pump and also proper ground.
On the express van they have a fuel pump wiring plug in on the transmission cross member.
The plug in can be bad there or the wiring in that area.
Make sure the 12 volt gray wire is getting 12 volts to and threw that plug in to fuel pump.
If you are going to fix it yourself the all data on line sub would be a big help to you.

After proper testing and.
If it is the fuel pump replace it with a AC Delco unit.
They can be bought in the 300 dollar bracket if you check around.
Good luck and let us know how it goes.

Thank you for responding. The pressure is 0. I was able to get them down to 700.00. Another was willing to take 600.00, but I was already tied 100.00 into having them look at it. I don't think I can do it myself, I don't have a lift. I'm sure I got taken, but at least I had them knock 200.00 off.
Thanks. This is a great site.:sunglasse

I replaced mine - '02 one-ton - at 130k. Got the pump at Thompson Cadillac Olds Raleigh. Check them on the web. Another dealer did the work - 3/4 tank gas - that's how they charge, for $315.

No one takes 9c for a pump. On anything.

Have them test the fuel pressure first... could be a bad purge valve. Just had one do the same thing, after sitting would not start until turning key off and on several times to pump up the fuel pressure to ove 54 psi. Valve would cause leak down under 50 psi. Acted like a bad fuel pump and it had already been replaced....
