I have these rims and want to see if they fit? There are 18" i'm going to try and put a pic on but don't quite know how yet.

Yes, they will fit nicely. I have a buddy with some 18's with a 40 profile tire and it looks badass.

i heard 18s fuck up your performance?

No they dont and wont, unless they are made of concrete

im not tryin to steal the but will 18s fit (fill the wheel welds nicely) on a 96 eclipse?

gthompson97
04-24-2007, 09:57 PM
Yes, all 2g's have the exact same body stamp so if it fits nicely on a 99, it will look the same on a 98, 97, 96, and 95. If you get 40 profile tires and lower it about 1-1.5 inches you will be sitting very nicely.

ok cool cause i was gonna get an eibach pro kit anyway

gthompson97

That will work just fine.

My car looks really good with the 18's on it and lowered about 1.5 inches.

Ashley what color is your car? Those are some good looking wheels.

JScharF thanks. Once again don't know yet how to do pics but soon as i do i'll put a pic of my car. It's red, tinted window(slighty, want more) and black leather interior. i'm going for this black and red thing( if you didn't notice) i got red lights inside and am thinkin about black out tail lights( opinions anybody?). I tried them (the rims) on once but heard a popping noise and this is my baby so i decided to be safe, but i'm gonna try again tomorrow. To the question as where i got them...they were a gift( very nice gift! lol).they are nice, great condition too.

gthompson97
04-25-2007, 01:07 AM
Yes on the blacked out taillights, I think they look extremely sexy. And for the popping noises, I'd get your suspension checked out before you put those wheels on just in case something is loose/broken.

NOFX0617
04-25-2007, 02:13 AM
I personally wouldnt black out the taillights on a red car...I dont think it looks very good...

Ashley Eclipse99
04-25-2007, 11:35 AM
Well i guess the real question now before i do this is there enough back spacing for the rims?

gthompson97
04-25-2007, 03:30 PM
They should be fine unless they're like 18x10's or something. I'd get that "popping noise" fixed first though.

i think she was saying that with the rims on it, it makes a pop noise, and with the OEM wheels on it doesnt. :2cents:

The tires on the rims are 225-40 on 18s. Rim measure 8" across width ways and they only make popping noises when the car is getting lower back to the ground.

gthompson97
04-25-2007, 08:43 PM
225's will be fine. Regardless of the popping noise coming from the rims or not, a popping noise in the suspension is not a good thing and it's something I would get checked out ASAP. :2cents:

Hmm..rotating mass. As long as the weight is matched by performance to us the rim then it shouldn't be an issue, if the rotating mass is greater by weight than the 'stock' set up , it can have a huge impact on 'performance' such as 0-60's , brake wear and tear , bearings , etc.

I think anything over a 16 is too much for such a puny vehicle which is why I am sticking with those as the 16's I have are obviously bigger than the stock 14's but they weigh in at 9 lbs less each with tire. :D

But for show and what not 18's are ok I suppose. That rim looks heavy as a mudda fugga though.

gthompson97
04-25-2007, 09:53 PM
Tons of people have 17s, 18s, 19s, and I've even seen 20s in a few cases. I know I'll be putting some 19s on the Talon when it's finished, but they're pretty light and they look badass. As long as you get a camber kit, you shouldn't have any excessive wear on the bearings.

Hey Blck99GST... i notice it says no cat under things dine to your car...i'm new at this if you hadn't noticed but did you take it out?

gthompson97
04-26-2007, 11:05 PM
Correct...there is a lack of a catalytic converter under his car.

Ashley Eclipse99
04-27-2007, 02:25 AM
What does that do? My car smell sometimes and someone said that it was that. what do you think it smells like rotten eggs.

david-b
04-27-2007, 11:32 AM
Rotten egg smell is usually the heater core from what I've heard.

Ashley Eclipse99

It could be the cat. converter. When it goes bad it smells horrible.

Hey l_eclipse_l i tried to send you an e-mail but don't know if it worked i was going to ask you if you ever tried 18" rims on your car? Cause we have basically the same car...kinda, you've probably done more to it but i hope to.

I haven't tried 18's on my car but I know many people on this forum have had 18's with no problems. I personally wouldn't go bigger than 17's because once you go bigger than that, weight becomes an issue since we don't have a lot of power to make up for it like the turbo cars. If I keep my car long enough, the next time I need tires I'm gonna get some new wheels and they will be 17's.

Ashley Eclipse99
04-28-2007, 08:31 PM
Oh ok thanks. How long have you had your car?

gthompson97
04-28-2007, 09:29 PM
Rotten eggs usually indicates a battery that is (or has) taken a shit, but it could be a number of other things too (plugged cat, bad ecu, etc)

They do look pretty decent. Why is the front of the car higher up than the back? On mine the front looks just a tad lower than the back...and to my knowledge all the suspension is stock. You said those were 18's? Somehow they look smaller, but maybe my perception is just off lol. Car looks good though.

You want to sell me them older rims?

Ashley Eclipse99
05-17-2007, 01:13 PM
well the old rims are not for sale sorry, i'm running winter tires of those and these are summer. The pic is at a slight angle, but the car is pretty level. but it look s different, and great thanks for yor input everyone it helped a lot.

gthompson97

It's just an optical illusion because of how the picture was taken. If you look closely at any DSM (or most cars in general for that matter), the front wheel wells are usually bigger and go up higher on the fender than the rear wells, that's why it looks higher in the front, but it's really not.

this is kind of off the subject but does anyone know how much a trunk cover( the grey piece that goes up with i trunk) would cost? And does anyone have one for sale?

Are you talking about the thing that blocks the view of the hatch compartment and is held by strings? You can find them on ebay usually, not sure how much though. Don't buy it at a dealer...it will most likely cost way more. I haven't seen one posted in the classified either from what I can remember.

what are you planning to do with you eclipse? as far as upgrades and body work?

l_eclipse_l

Body work...maybe just give it a new coat of paint and get all the dents and shit out lol. I like the stock 2g body how it is. I would like to get some new wheels, but my tires have a LOT of tread left so it will be awhile for that.

Performance...nothing really. Maybe a header and exhaust if somehow I run into a bunch of money, but other than that I don't think anything. It would just be a waste unless you really plan on going balls out and dumping a lot of money into it. I'm fine with it looking good, sounding good, and getting decent gas mileage.

I have been thinking about buying some new speakers though...:)

Ashley Eclipse99

yea it's still a great car, and will always look good.

gthompson97

I picked up that hatch cover at a local junkyard for $30. Or check ebay, but I wouldn't pay more than about $50 shipped to your door.

Ashley Eclipse99
05-28-2007, 10:12 PM
yea it shouldn't be to much, but i haven't found it on the internet yet, but i haven't looked very hard, people were telling me to go see how much it would be from a dealer...but all i know are there are a few things broken and i would like to get them fixed.
