Interior Part Color?

I have a Pontiac Grand AM SE, a 2000, and I'd really like to get into modifying it. I have seen many modded cars with some interior parts/accessories different colors than the rest of the interior. I have a picture to show you what I mean:

EDIT: seems my picture didn't work.

All of that stuff that is white on that car is black on mine, well not really black, but the same color as the entire interior. I was wondering how/if/where/ I could do this.

Any help will be greatly appreciated.

What kind of paint do you use, or would you reccomend that I use? Yours looks pretty glossy, im not sure if i'd want it that plasticy looking, but I like your guide, some day soon I plan on following it step by step and doing it.

I used Krylon Fusion color, cheapo glossy clear coats.
You can use mat or semi gloss os even satin finish I'd just do samples to see what you like and what you dont.

I like mine, just the GT I painted the defrost vent gloss.
In bright sunlight it reflects on the windshield kinda distracting glare :eek7:
Which that vent is a pita to remove with out breaking.

Good Luck!

Btw I painted the GT blu the first time didnt like it,
now its green, I'm not liking it now, so I'm going with the metalic green:naughty:
Third times a charm. :D

Haha, nice.

Yeah it'll take some work, maybe the gloss isn't all that bad.
I've always been a BLACK and WHITE man, so, white it shall be.
I'll post pictures when I start the project. Hell, it might be today.

not sure if know this already but when you take the pieces off you'll have to sand them down until the entire painting surface is scuffed. This will help the paint stick. After you sand it, run water over it to remove all the dust. Once it is COMPLETELY dry you can start painting. I just used Krylon spray paint. Dont put it on thick. Just do light dustings one at a time..im sure you can just use your own judgment as to what "too much paint" looks like. When the paint is dry and youre happy with the results, put 2 or 3 coats of clear coat on. That will help with the shine and will also add a layer of protection from scratches and stuff like that. The bright side is that if you mess it up, you can always sand it and try again.

just my 2 cents in case you wanted it. Good luck. Post some pics when youre all done with it, im curious to see how it turns out

Heres some pics of my interior work (different year than yours tho)

So!

I started. I did the far vent covers on each side. The little 2 or 3 inch covers for the window defrost. They look decent. I also took off the main console peice, and the peice around the shifter. I didn't sand anything, but used a paint that is made to go on plastic surfaces such as dashboards and other stuff. I did it all in white. Im a bit worried about dust and scratches, but thats all on me to keep my car a safe scratch free enviroment.

I'll tell ya, i've never been more sick of the smell of spray paint, smells like absolute hell.

Question: Can some one give a detailed explination for how to get the Circular vents out to be painted? I can't get them out and I don't feel like ruining the whole thing.

forgot to mention...if u do put clear coat on, wait about a day before putting it on because if u put it on too soon it will bubble up. I assume its some kind of chemical release that becomes held in by the clear coat.

ok..im done until im asked haha.

You probly should at least washed the parts because if someone used armorall on them NO paint will stick.

You start getting fisheyes, then have to sand it off and repaint.

I thought thier was some info on that page I linked above for the round vent removal....
Its easy though,
- To remove the vents.
just push the straight sdrivr in around the outter ring, while pulling on the vent fins gently, and working the Sdriver around aiming for the three tabs the hold them in at 2-5-10 O clock positions. Vent removal (http://i28.photobucket.com/albums/c242/xeroinfinity/AUTOMOBILES/ventremov.jpg).
Heres a close up of the vent with its three tabs (http://i28.photobucket.com/albums/c242/xeroinfinity/SeCond%20Hand/vent1.jpg).

Lookin Good !

You can install some lights down there, I used to have some LEDs on my SE.
I Just wired them into the lighter power and put a switch on the negative wires.
You will need a bunch of wire slack so if you need to remove the radio bexel it will come off with out cutting the wires.

I meant like, you know how the interior lights, every light almost is red. All the button, nobs, swicthes. I know on the back of some, maybe all is red plastic to give the look of a RED light behind it. I'm wondering if anyone has ever looked at lets say; the cd console. With the audio tuning "bars" that go up in down. ON them the have a small translucent WHITE (in the light) spot. When its dark out, they are colored red. I mentioned I want my car to be completely black, or white. Since BLACK doesn't work so well as a light, I was wondering if I could change or mod the buttons?

Different acesories use different technics to illuminate the dash and radio.
The cluster is colored by the overlays, most bulbs are clear/white.
The radio uses LEDs in each of the EQ buttons, all the rest is red plastic with a clear light, cant be changed to much but maybe purple with a Blue bulb :dunno:
The HVAC gets the color from the overlay too, the knobs are red plastic w/clear.
All the lock/window buttons are colord from the bulbs red silicone cover, pull off the cap and its white :D

Hope that helps.

I hav a back burner Mod to replace the lock/window button lights with LEDs.
This will require the cutting of wires and soldering in a resistor.
