i recently bought a used 03 buick rendezvous and man oh man am i sorry i did. i have had it since Feb07. and already it's left me high and dry. last monday the car quit in the middle of traffic. it would not start, almost as if it wasn't getting gas. took it to a dealer and he said it was the fuel pump that would cost me 600.00 dollars plus labor. ok so i didn't really believe that since my car has only 56000 miles on it. i had my dad look at it and we changed the fuel filter and wiring harnest to the fuel pump and also the battery. runs but not well. it idles very rough and dies while driving it but will start right back up. also i have codes that are popping up like crazy for the vent valve. would that have anything to do with the problems i am having now? :banghead:

Welcome to AF. Try and post all the codes your symptoms are very generic and difficult to pinpoint the issue. How did the shop determine the fp was bad, you discounted their diagnosis but continue to have problelms, has anyone tested the fuel pressure?

they tested the fuel pump when the car wouldnt start. but my father pinpointed the problem to be with the wiring to the fuel pump. should i still consider paying for a new fuel pump?

yes, please consider replacing the fuel pump as it could very likely be the problem, I think the only reason the pump works with the new wiring is because its getting more current but its probably on its way out and thats why you experience the rough idling and shutting downs. If anything you could get the pump at he local auto parts store with a good return policy and if the pumps turns out not to be the problem you can return it.

well i think that would be an idea. but now i am having more serious problems with the car. the anti-freeze is leaking but where i have no clue. there is nothing on the ground. no sign by looking at the engine where it's going to. i have looked inside the car and out. i have seen a few people say that it's going into the head gasket. also i am going to tune the car up this weekend and see what comes of that. i really don't want to replace the fuel pump with it only being 56000 miles. it seems as though the car is really falling apart. also with the car quiting but not stopping suddenly should i be looking at the electrical part of this???

Welcome to AF. Cannot agree with this advice, no parts house is going to take back a " dunked" fuel pump as a return.

I'm having the same issue with my vous 02. It wont start when it gets hot, as if there is no gas in the car. I leave it to cool down for half an hour and then its ok. I do feel that its the fuel pump going bad but i wish that it dies already so i know its it.
Good luck to both of us.
Also please see my thread IT WONT START to help me out as well.

sure you have never heard of autozone or advance auto parts, they will take any parts back as long as you have the receipt and in same condition as bought.. I have done it many times, with everything from starters to injectors and every single time I have told them "that wasnt the problem" and they have refunded my money with NO objection...

Well as for 56k miles... that is a low mileage for it to fail, but anything is possible. The GM 3.4l engine is notorious for eating coolant at the intake housing gasket (first engine, I believe, to have plastic instead of metal there.) Try replacing the gasket with an aluminum after market one, reliatively easy I would think (just looking at it.)
Note: If you have the pump replaced, make sure they actually replace it. GM dealers have a little trick they can do with wiring, that makes it work wonderfully for about 3 days, and then fail agaon. THey then actually replace it and it doens't happen again:rolleyes:
