generic? k&n filter problem

fellows:
i've had this on my car for two years now: http://www.brothersperformance.com/catalog/product_info.php/cPath/1_9_82/products_id/810
and i'm in the process of putting on a 65mm tb & egr when i pull this unit and about a mouthful of water comes out. it wasn't raining hard at all last night, but i was on the highway for an hour in the drizzle. the filter looks like a K&N with moroso stamped on the top, but i'm not sure. if it is a legit k&n i'll clean it, but if not i have to wonder if the filter worth cleaning or should i just send for the k&n of the same size? i have enough cleaner and oil to work on this one.

follow up question:
if i had to buy another filter should i go with the one that looks and is the exact same size: http://store.knfilters.com/search/product.aspx?Prod=RU-4190
or the slightly bigger one that would still fit in the fender wall?

Is your fender sealed? When I had my Stang, there was no way water could get into it. If its a moroso, they make pretty good stuff, I would just clean that, and use it till it falls apart.

its more enclosed than sealed, but i can't imagine enough water getting splashed under the filter to soak it. the newest crisis is that the bolts from the upper intake manifold to the egr are corroded soild and in my effort to pry off the spacer with a pry bar i popped a hole into the valve cover. :shakehead
i love to learn

now that i've got the upper manifold off i notice a greasy film that coats the walls of the lower and upper intake tracks. something tells me that there shouldn't be oil up there - can anyone explain this? :uhoh: is that normal for a 20 year old car or maybe has dirt accumulated over the years and now that water may have been passed through the filter it has turned into an oily mud.

The upper intake on my truck which has a 5.0 in it was black inside if thats what you are talking about its the pcv recirculating.
