For like 30 bucks or so, you can get the obdI scanner for your car..

You can use a jumper wire and no meter, then count the flashes on the Check Engine Light. For a list of codes and diagrams on how to connect the jumper wire, see http://autorepair.about.com/cs/troubleshooting/l/bl_dtcs_18a.htm. The connections are shown at the bottom of the webpage.

No problem. I suspect you are thinking of "acidbath." I believe he's recently re-worked his Yamaha V6 SHO engine completely.

Since you perform the test with the key in the run position, engine off, the only codes it will display are stored codes.

well i bought the scan tool and it showed code 63 46 34itested voltage at the tps and there was 5 volts. so im thinking that happened when i unpluged the tps. one of the codes is for the egr valve wich would explain the stalling every now and then. the other code im not sure.

That only shows the set up for the anilog meter test. How do I get it to show them through the engine light?

It shows both methods. The upper diagram with the jumper wire is all you need. With the key off, you install the jumper wire. Once the wire is installed, turn the key to the run position and the CEL will flash out the codes.
The lower diagram showing the analog meter works the same as far as key positions go, but instead of watching the CEL, you count the meter swings.
