I hate dealerships

In my car, prolly like a lot of yours, the seat-belts don't retract properly anymore. When you unbuckle and get out, they just hang limply on the door, and if you don't feed them into the door, they slam in the door-jam and scratch up the paint. Honda is supposed to replace them for free (safety equipment is warranted for the life of the car) SO I took it over to them and it seemed like they weren't going to give me a problem. but they called me and said they are supposed to be like that because you are supposed to leave the seat belst buckled even when you get out. But they are still supposed to retract into the door. They are so cheap :mad:. Also, on the highway, with the windows down, they don't retract when you lean forward, that is definately safe. Those jerks better replace my seatbelts or I am gonna be pissed.

I hear what you're sayin...but yeah, the seatbelts were intended to always be buckled....I just found that out recently, actually...

dejavu, that happens all the time to me and i have all these scrapes up and down my door where the paint gets chipped off from the stupid metal buckle thing argh!! :mad:

yeah, I know they are supposed to be buckled, in the late 80's, early 90's all cars either had to have auto seatbelts or airbags, that was hondas form of auto seatbelts (bravo, much better than those stupid track riders). But they should still retract all of the way into the door. They can not tell me that when the cars came from the factory, if you pull the seatbelt out of the door a couple of feet and let it go, it will just hang ther, no, it would retract into the door. MINE DON'T so honda had better replace them. And like I said, sometimes they don't even stay tight on my chest, that is definately not safe, what if I got in an accident while they were loose, or because I was trying to fix them. Seat belts are EXTREMELY dangerous if they are not tight against the body. They are designed to stop the body from flying forward, not stop the body once it is flying forward, can we say decapitation. They said their service manager is gonna go drive it, I hope he gets in an accident and I will sue the crap out of that stupid honda dealership.

how are they supposed to stay buckled all the time? if you open the door when the seat belt is buckled the belts pull against you and its like a spider web trying to get out of it. thats stupid.

does anybody know if aftermarket 4 point harness are actually legal? i mean, do you have to only mount them a certain way for them to be crash resistant or what? i've always wondered that. It would seem that 4 point harness would be safer than the factory belt, but not if the harness just came unhooked if you get in a wreck :rolleyes:

THe dealership called me back and was like "well, it looks like you have one that retracts pretty slow, so we are going to go ahead and order the parts for both sides" I was like yeah, you better fix them. It just shows to go you that a little complaining and heckling can go a long way :p

Stay buckled all the time! thats EFFING RIDICULOUS! Im glad I have an 89 with the belts in the door posts. Sorry to hear about your common problem. I know what causes your seatbelt to let you lean forward like that. There is a little brown piece of plastic that breaks, its basically the catch for the seatbelts clutch. It broke on my friends 91 SI and he took it to Honda. They said that I must have broken it putting power locks in for him(which I didnt), i told the mechanic to go jack off and find my uncle. (My uncle is a GM there.) Needless to say he got his seatbelt replaced after my uncle to the mechanic that I have forgotten more then he will ever know about cars. Too bad thats not quite true. But yeah, for anyone else with these problems raise hell and they will fix it. Its a dirty business but it IS your life at stake here. Shit, I have enough to worry about right now with this DC SNIPER running around my area. Anyone got a bulletproof vest I can borrow? Actually make that a hat, he has been shooting people in the head.

ok i got an 88 hatch and had to replace my seatbelt (driverside) i went to the junkyard and paid (dont remember) and i couldve gotten it for free?????that sucks...too bad this post wasnt from like one year ago?!!?! oh well they work....im just careful to put it out of the door jam

yeah, seatbelts are free at the dealership. If anything ever goes wrong with the seatbelt in any car you ever own, take it over to the dealer

the only time honda seatbelts dont have the lifetime warranty is if they have been tampered with or damaged due to an accident.

I actually bought my car from a dealership!
Once i bought it they informed me of a Recall on the seatbelt's, They replaced mine free of charge.

I cant stand dealerships, theyre so expensive. When my car was shitting out on me, i took it to the dealership to get it fixed. They couldnt find the problem but they still charged me $85 for nothing. I was so pissed I was yelling at the lady at the reception desk, she ddint really know anything about it though. Then the Service Manager cam over and i yelled at him too. I was pissed, i wont go back there again.

you paid for the tech's time with that $85.00

WOOHOO picked up the car today, new seat belts :D They look nice and work good, now I have to find a way to break the rear ones so that they will replace them;)

The question about "are 4 point harnesses legal" is a very good one. In Pennsylvania they indeed ARE. The rule here is that you MUST have a functioning seat belt for each seat. I raised the question while getting the CRX inspected. There is only 1 seat in the car now (SCCA ITA) and it has a 5 point harness. My dealer tech says that is good enough. If I want a REV on the passenger side-then I must add another harness (could be a 4 point).

so can you bring your car to any honda dealership and they would replace them? or did you have to buy it from that dealership? im confused

Don't be hating the dealerships, i work for one. But yes, we will replace the seatbelts for free, just call the dealership ahead of time so that can order parts. The fourth gen civics parts are usally never in stock and make an appointment.

I got a CRX and my belts don't retract back up either. I took it to the dealer today and they said they only replace them if there is a problem with the seatbelt. And I was like the belt just hanging there getting shut in the door isn't a problem? And he started gettin all defensive. Then the manager said they would call the honda headquarters and see if they can replace them. So hopefully they'll say yeah.

that type of seat belt is illegal now anyway isnt it, seiing how if your in a wreck and the door flies open...YOU FLY OUT!!! You would think they would be a little nicer about making sure they are safe.

Well I went to my local honda dealership they are awesome I walked in and asked them to replace them didnt even look at it. They told me when I had to time just call to order the parts and bring it in they will replace it all for FREE! Mine are terrible they dont even go back up so I really needed this, thanks for the info on the call back.
