Yeah I know there are tons of topics out here like this but I could really use some help. I have up to about 15k to spend on this car and my dad says it has to be close to or under 50000 miles and he doesn't like the idea of me getting anything older than 2000. Looking for something with good gas milage, something that doesn't cost alot for insurance, and something that looks nice. We were looking at some mazdas but I don't know how bad insurance would be for something like a mazda3/6. We already checked into a mitsubishi lancer ralliart and an eclipse. The lancer was going to cost 3200 a year and the eclipse about 3000 (more a month than the car payments were gonna be) so those two are definately out of the question. Quick answer would be nice because we're gonna go look some more this weekend.

Newer car and low insurance dont go together. Get something old that you really like.

I'm assuming you're really young so what Newbster said is kinda true. Depends on the car. It's best to get a list of what you will consider, get quotes for all of them, and cross off what you can't do so you know what to look for. Any car that tends to be "riced" (Civic, Eclipse, prelude, etc) are likely to be high, but again only way to know for sure is to get quotes.
Could look at the Saturns. No they don't have the looks but are pretty inexpensive vehicles that can meet the other criteria pretty easily (good mileage, good insurance). Probably would look at an ION level 3 coupe or an 02 SC2 in spectacular condition.

go with a honda civic. Cheap insurance, reliable, and not too much $ to buy.

Thanks for the replys. He is actually thinking about giving me his truck. It's horrible on gas but if he offers it I don't think I could refuse no matter how much it'd cost me. Also as far as newer cars having higher insurance how does that work? Like would a 2000 model still be considered newer or is that just for 06/07's.

2003-up is what i would consider "new", or 4-5 years before the present. There are a lot of factors that are involved in insurance cost however. Type of car, age, age of car, driving history, where you live, use of the vehicle, and other reasons.

Are trucks worse on insurance? Or are they better. I looked at the saturns and they aren't half bad for the price. And are foreign cars really worse on insurance than domestics?

Depends on the truck but generally no. I think my full coverage insurance for my Dakota is like $98 a month at the most, and I think it went down when I turned 21 a couple months ago.
