Depends on depressing. Go for most country songs. Like sad love songs or...idk. When I think of depressing sad love songs come first. Used to have a sad song play list. LIke 100 songs...ot rid of it.
Off the top of my head:
Rascal Flatts - What Hurts the Most
Jimmy Eat World - Cautioners/Hear you Me
Kelly Clarkson - Trouble With Love Is
Oldies:
Dr. Hook - Sylvia's Mother
Elvis Presley - Enough said...
Patrick Swayze - She's Like the Wind
Ray Charles - When A Man Loves A Woman/Georgia (sounds beautiful)/You Are So Beautiful to Me (not depressing, but has that feeling)
Richie Valens - Oh Donna (I think a lot has to do with that movie and the context when this song was played)
Simon & Garfunkle - Bridge over Troubled Water/Sound of Silence
Chicago - Hard to Say I'm Sorry/Glory of Love/If You Leave Me Now/Will You Still Love Me/You're the Inspiration
Don Henley - Sometimes Love Just Ain't Enough
Eric Clapton - (Ultimate) Tears in Heaven/Lady in Red/Wonderful Tonight
Righteous Brothers - Unchained Melody (Ghost Theme)
Berlin - Take My Breath Away (Top Gun Theme)
More off my head:
Foo Fighters - February Stars/Aurora
Whitney Houston - One Moment In Time/I Will Alway Love You
The Eagles - Desperado:The Best of My Love/Hole In the World Tonight/Take it to the Limit/The Sad Cafe/I Can't Tell You Way/Love Will Keep Us Alive

Oh dang..I didn't hit up my hip-hop/R&B/rap music...oh well.
Yeah, some Chevelle and the like songs i think are but they're a little heavy. Not emo, just have a lot of music and I know all of it. Got music always going.

A sadder counrty song is "Whiskey Lullaby" by Brad Paisely and Alison Krauss.
Otherwise maybe "Where'd you go" by Fort Minor.
Oh, and I definately think "Tears in Heaven" would be a top choice. Especially with the story that goes with it.

Sheesh!
Hurt by Johnny Cash - that's a Nine Inch Nails cover...
Try playing the 'Murder Ballads' by Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds whilst you are snowed in a Chalet for 3 days... though the Orpheus concept album would do and watch the cabin fever get to the weakest links in the chain...:nono:
Seriously though some less obvious...
'Last Goodbye' by Jeff Buckley from 'Grace' Album
'Fade into You' by Mazzy Star from 'So Tonight that I might see'
'Polyester Bride' by Liz Phair from 'whitechocolatespaceegg'
'Wandering Star' by Portishead from Dummy (although Glory Box would suffice)
'1979' by Smashing Pumpkins from Mellon Collie and the Infinite Sadness
'Me and a Gun' by Tori Amos - a song about her rape
'No Aphrodisiac' by The Whitlams off 'Eternal Nightcap' or alternatively 'Last of the Teenage Lovers' off Torch the Moon
'My Friend' by Groove Armada from 'Goodbye Country..."
'Running to Stand' by U2 from Joshua Tree
I hasten to note anything from Alanis Morrisette but after being dragged along to one of her concerts by three girls including my then g/f - who needed me to get in 4 free (don't ask) - and then standing up the very front with about 150 pairs of firm, perky and teenage breasts pressed against me I spent the concert with this idiotic grin...
:evillol:
Something that the g/f at the time noticed... and when questioned about it I replied that I may as well enjoy something about the concert...
:naughty:

^I stayed away from Alanis Morrisette cause he wanted depressing not emo before emo. Can't say anything actually bad, I like her music. I skipped over too much...
o0o0o0oo Groove Aramada! Hands of Time is good. They played it in Collateral. Funny how they called it the classics, I believe.
Really smooth and good soul music. Hm...nvm. I ain't hitting up my jazz/blues, etc folder. Or anymore but I forgot Groove Armada. Had them somewhere else. Too much music...

Well I could add 'Ciao Baby' by The Cult for that matter... or Heroes by David Bowie as like 1979 by Smashing Pumpkins and The Flood by Peter Gabriel they have been played at Funerals for Friends or Tributes....
Music is contextual... Last Goodbye is one of my favourite songs but it's because that song is shared with someone who was very important at a stage in my life and may be again one day. There are others like 'Lullaby' by Starsailor from 'Love is Here' as well... or the fact that 'Cmon Eileen' by Boomtown Rats was playing one day when I put someone on a plane on an overseas flight... or I've heard American Pie by Don McLean so many times that I could snap if I hear it being sung like a screeching cat in a hessian sack with a bunch of horseshoes by some toneless chick dancing on her chair believing she's some diva...

My personal favorites:
Phil Collins - Take Me Home
Phil Collins - I Don't Care Anymore
Phil Collins - Against All Odds (Take A look at me Now)
Genesis - Throwing It All Away
Other favorites:
Sarah McLachlan - I will remember you (live version)
Alanis Morissette - You Learn
Celine Dion - Because you loved me

Richard Marx - Right Here Waiting
Lionel Richie - Stuck on You
Peabo Bryson & Linda Rhonstadt - Somewhere out there
Kid Rock - Lonely Road of Faith

Starship - Sara
Alan Parsons Project - Eye in the Sky (this one still drives me to tears as it was something my dad, RIP 12-13-03, used to play the shit out of)
Mike and the Mechanics - The Living Years (again, a tear jerker for sure for anyone who's lost their dad over the years)
LeAnn Rhimes or Trisha Yearwood - How do I Live
Le Ann Womack - I Hope you Dance
Pink - just like a pill
A really good one that's probably unknown:
Rika Muranaka - I am the Wind
(If you're not familiar with this one, don't be surprised! It's kind of obscure, and it was only on a PS1 video game. I only remember it because it resembles my life so much)

Lionel Richie - Stuck on You
Peabo Bryson & Linda Rhonstadt - Somewhere out there
Kid Rock - Lonely Road of Faith
Creed - My Sacrifice
Don Henley - End of the Innocence

EDIT:
Hey i know one. The song "I would walk 500 miles". This song has to be sad to a feller with no feet...
