Alright ...I have got one here..this 1995 pymth neon sohc.. has given me a run down on time and money.this car is in the makeing to be my little show car so i have rebult and dress up the motor.I rebult the head had all head kits everthing best of the best in parts... and.had a friend that is a mac. put the motor together with all Spec Correct ,but heres the thing .got the motor in .started it.ran for about 10 mins cuts off.well looked at the gas hand.it was empty..so i got 8.00 in gas dump it in..no start..ok thinking fuel pump...nope..so did a pcm code check got a 54 no cam sig..fix that..and 55 which is all codes r clear..heres a list of things i have replaced and i am talking brand new..head,pistons,coilpack,fuelpump,plugs,wires,ca m senor and pigtails, crank senor, oil pump, fuel fliter, timing belt,fel-pro gaskets around, replaced key switch, fuel relays, rocker arms..We took it to the shop worked on it for 4 days on the oil pump and rear brakes broke a time gear had to order and replace had car running drove it about 2 miles no get up and go, just slow.got home cut the car off.pulled the plugs out cleaned them.placed them back in didnt start it tell later that night went to start it again wouldn't start.it will turn over but motor kills out.I thinking it the PCM from what i have been reading about PCM is that the timeing and fuel mang is in the PCM so i went and got one out of a junk yard but i got a PCM for a AT and mine is a MT 5 speed.called 32 junks.. no PCM's for my car.So before i Kill my bank account any more.. do you think it might be the PCM??????I AM BUYING A NEW ONE IF ITS IS...THXS

Possible PCM, but have you replaced the exhaust? It could be a plugged catalytic converter. other than that, I'm not sure.

Maybe it jumped time.. It's possible the timing slipped if it wasn't properly tensioned.

Double check your timing marks.

rechecked timing marks..dead on.top and bottom..the exhaust is fine no clogs...looked on alldatapro.com says the the PCM sets the timing for the motor..thanks for the ideas..anymore thought's on this problem?
Heres a Photo of the motor and the set up ------> http://i16.tinypic.com/2cfuuwz.jpg%5B/IMG%5D
This Motor is clean no oil no dirt..

have u checked ur fuel to air mixture? u could be running too lean. might also possibly be ur idle. i hhad an 80's modle izuzu trooper and if the idle was set below 1,000 rpm the engine would cut out.

How would he check the A/F ratio without a gauge hooked up?

Got a question if it was to be a plugged catalytic converter..would it still blow air out the rear end??I need to know before i change it also.i cut the muffler off today.what i am needing to know is how would i check the catalytic conv.I have no why to get it to the muffler shop .so ill have to do it at my home.but before I replace or get into it.how would i check this better?what should i be looking for?.like i said i drove it home..had no get up and go..Every thing on this motor is done to the correct spec..i have dam near replaced everything..The OEM PCM had no codes.unplugged o2 and cran sen pick it right up. but it had a loud noise coming from the PCM unit Codes or no codes..I replaced Unit but by mistake with a PCM that was the same year and same motor but it was for a AT not a <MT which i have>..I was thinking it was the PCM or EGA or EGR what ever one it is the car will crack when i start it up with the gas padel to the floor if you keep it to the floor it will keep running.but it fells like the car is useing it last drop of gas..like i said its running but not running..but not really .RPM's Hand dosnt move...I have changed fuel filter under the tank and replaced fuel pump and also changed fuel relay in master tech box under the hood..has a 1/2 tank of 89 gas 4 days old..pulled fuel rod and inj clean and flush it out them.getting fuel like hell.but it is not running..cant seem to get it.?Is there anyone that would like to add there :2cents:'s?...NGG...PS what if i hook my shop vac to the end of tail pipe and let it suck it out for a bit..think that will help??and for those who are worndering..i am being 4 real....LATER

Its beginning to seem like you may have gotten a bad camshaft, or bad coil pack, or a crankshaft without the notches for the crank position sensor, other extremely rare problem. I think you said you got a loud noise from the PCM - which I dont understand.
But anyway...
I cant imagine a cat. conv. so plugged up that you wouldnt be able to at least start the car, sooo......you could unbolt the exhaust pipe from the manifold and try to start it. You could at least determine if it would run that way.
An engine runs if its has compression, gets a burnable mixture into the combustion chamber, and has spark at about the right time. A compression check would tell you if that was okay. You can use a can of 'starting fluid' into the throttle to check what happens with a burnable mixture. But the ignition timing on these electronic wonders is difficult to check. You can check that it has a healthy spark, but how do you know if the coil pack is being triggered near top dead center, or way-way degrees late?

I Agree With Removing Cat From Manifold. We Worked On A PT Cruiser A Month Ago At My Shop With This Problem. Car Was All Oem, But Would Not Idle. If You Pressed On The Gas It Would Run But Only Drive About 5 Mph. Cat Converter Was Severly Plugged!
