cluster swap

I'm doing a cluster swap next weekend and I need to rewire current harness to run a jdm SiR cluster. I have the directions and all, but I'm not sure if I should just cut and splice the wires or use one of those connectors from radio shack or something? Has anyone done this before?

I haven't done the JDM swap, just a 88 into a 91, had to rewire it. I just cut the wires and crimped them back together. Takes up a lot of room, but it works and holds together pretty well.

Best and surest way is heat shrink and soilder. Its the only way I do suff cause ya never know what could pull the wires out and leave ya stranded and ya got 40 or so wires just butt connected together. Just my thought

I agree about soldering...but I'll think about it (too lazy)...part of my thread was a hint about Radio Shack, hehehe. Which branch to do work at 88Civic_DX?:D

just use a crimping tool and buy some butt connectors, trust me its worth the $15 itll cost you, all you do is splice the wires, insert them into the connector and crimp, its not gonna come out...soldering takes too long

It's coo...I dont think I'll be spending $200 bux on connectors...I can take Crow Canyon and can be there pretty quick, if need be...Too much work, I have to replace the VSS with an electronic one and run 3 wires to the cluster then crimp. Does anybody know if the SiR cluster is the same as the USDM 90-91, size wise? Maybe I can get a USDM cluster and just transfer the tach or the speedometer to the SiR. Reading kmh wouldnt be fun and may take getting used to. Thats what I did on my current Canadian cluster that reads kmh. I transfered my stock speedo and kept my odometer.:flash:

Well 100 kmh = 62 MPH, right? So anything over 105 is too fast ;) Well...at least over here...we don't have any speed limits over 65 and those are only on the Interstates :(

I know...it just looks weird looking at a speedo that reads kph.
