Hey, I'm thinking about maybe buying a brand new 2007, what do you think? Do you like them? Are they down alot? I just need help deciding...

I'm trying to decide, rebuild my tranny and maybe my engine in my 3000gt, OR buy a new car... :shakehead

I think the 4g's are awesome but I've never got to drive one. I was just looking at them earlyer today when I went to pick my car up at the dealer. I love the interior on them. I havent heard of any major problems with them but I haven't really searched neither.

As for fixing your 3k...I guess that depends how much you like the car?

The only possible drawback to getting the 4G over rebuilding your 3KGT is that you would be switching from RWD to FWD (I would rather have a RWD car than the FWD because I HATE understeer). Also, is yours just a base 3K or is it turbo/vr4. If its the latter of the two I would look into the cost of a total rebuild and probably keep it if you like the car. It's all up to you, but the price tag on a 3.8 GT is pretty high for the car you get...you can get a lot more car for about the same or less if you go with something else (SRT-4, Cobalt SS (dont like them, but they can easily become a monster) 99-2004 Stang SVT (again, dont like Stangs but you get a lot of car for not much money). It's all about what you want/like/want to pay/want to do/want to invest...yada yada yada.

I could have swore 3k's are FWD too but I could be wrong.(VR4 AWD of course)

My is FWD at lease.. :uhoh:

Yeah, It's a hard decision... :banghead: I really love my car, (I've just had it about a year) I've already put so much money in it, I just fear that once it's done and out of the shop i'll find somthing else wrong with it... :disappoin

Keep the 3000GT
Use the $$ to make it AWD.

I'd probably just sell can buy another car. For some reason cars don't feel the same when you change out the engine/tranny.

Having it rebuilt may actually yield better performance, but I don't know many people that do that when you pay a lot for labor.

It being 1991, I'd opt for a newer car. It might end up costing more to keep having to replace parts in an older car.

Huh, my buddy had a 3KGT SL and I thought for sure his was RWD...wierd. I didnt realize it was a 1991 car, that being said it's hard to compare the two. You would be buying a car 16 years newer, so It will obviously drive much nicer all around. What all have you done to your car that would make you want to keep it, also, whats the KBB value of the car versus the ammount of money you need to invest in it...it is sounding like it could turn into a money pit real fast.

All 3kgts are either AWD (VR-4) or FWD (SL / GT).
And as for your 3kgt I've read your posts in the 3kgt section of the forum and I do believe that buyin new capacitors for your ECU is a relativly cheap and easy repair to undertake (around $30 maybe?) I also do know that alot of the 1gen 3kgt's suffer from leaking capacitors, and in most cases repairing them fixes your problems.

The 3kgt is a high performance car that WILL require lots or attention and upkeep. So if you know how to install basic stuff on the car then it will save you a dent in your pocketbook. They do have the potential to turn into money pits if the upkeep on the car is lacking. But overall the car if well maintained and serviced is a very decent car. But it is from 16+ years ago. So you never quite know what to expect:rolleyes:

Anyways I have heard some nice things about the new Eclipse :iceslolan

Well, I talked to the guy at AZPro today and where as my capacitiors ARE leaking, and i'm going to send them in this week, the trouble that I'm having wouldn't be from my ECU, or Transmission computer. Which means, it's my tranny...:banghead: I think, as much as I would love a newer car, I'm going to try to fix the tranny, I really can't do a 250 a month car payment:redface:... I've got a wedding to pay for and a house... :disappoin Which I know I'm probally going to regret not buying a newer car later on... unless somone knows of a newer, sporty type car that goes for around 8000 lol.

He said it's not the TCU either, it's not doing the same thing that it would be if it was the TCU, and I havn't had the tranny rebuilt yet...

I'd get a used car then, but something newer than 2000

Hmm...its most likely a combination of the tranny and the leaky capacitors. My suggestion is to have the capacitors repaired before you do anything else.

Yeah, that's what I'm doing, but if was the capacitors it would be going in to defalt and locking into one gear, not droping into netural. :frown:

True, but either way those should be fixed to avoid future problems. So have them fixed and if it still isnt running well (probably won't run too well but you never know :p) you should get your transmission looked at.

sell your FWD 3K and buy a 3K awd, thats a waste of money converting

Would think that converting it your self would be cheeper than buying another one.

"Conversions", such as "making" you FWD 3s into an AWD 3s, are extremely costly, and certainly not worth the money or time, especially since you can find a decent VR4 for under $10K nowaways, with some with high mileage even as low as $4000.

My '93 SL has been running like a charm (160K miles, manual tranny). I got it for only $2000, and since then, the rack and pinion has been changed, but other than that, no problems. If you are trying to save money, then rebuild you current car instead of taking on monthly payments, in my opinion. I really like the new Eclipses, especially with the factory lip kits they come with, but I wouldnt buy one over my 3000GT.

He's talking about converting a FWD 3000GT to AWD, not a 3g Eclipse.

"3s" is a general name for all 3000GTs and Stealths, much like "DSM" stands for all Eagle Talons, Plymouth Lasers and Mitsu Eclipses, if that's where the confusion is.

Long day late at night. Saw 3g when it was 3s sry for confusion.
