Does DTC 38 illuminate the CEL?

I have been asked to help a owner of a 1992 3.8 Trans Sport. Sometimes the car looses power and starts running rough. At this point the CEL inlluminates. This happends once every 100-200 km. I have told him how to to pull the codes and he have come back with DTC38 Brake switch circuit as only stored code. Does DTC 38 illuminate the CEL? The corresponding DCT for 1995 (DTC 705) does not. Does anyone have the Diagnostic chart for DTC38?

This will not set a cel on a 92 car/truck. I think his problem is unrelated to this code based on the symptoms.

Thanks! This is what I thought too.

I have just scanned that page :
www.avigex.ca/xport/dtc38.jpg
I was not aware of that, but with a dtc38, it says TCC and 4th would not engage: the owner should have noticed that unusual behaviour...could it be that this was mistakenly labelled as "running rough" ?

The owner of the car has not yet been able to fix his car. He has now been able to pull DTC18 (still also DTC38). This makes more sense since DTC18 does illuminate the CEL. The van can run great for some hours and then suddenly start missfire (or something like this) under load, and at this point the CEL illuminates. The owner has also noticed some rogh idling now and then. I have looked at the diagnostic aids for DTC18: http://www.avigex.ca/xport/dtc18.jpg
What is the first thing the owner should check? Does anyone have any more input on this?

I'm very inclined to think a crank position sensor problem. Check this recent thread:

Thanks for the input. I think he has been able to drive his car, even with the problems. He has never been standing with a complete dead car at the road.
I know he have tried to get help from a lot of workshops, but none have been able to fix the car.
