FMIC kit for $1000

so i stopped by a local shop last saturday to grab some parts for my car because my regular shop is closed on saturdays. i started talking with the guy there about my 3000gt and he said that he had an FMIC kit that he's been working on for sale for $1000 including the core (i think he said 24" wide 14" tall, i forget how deep). he's already installed it on one vr4 but couldn't find pics at the time. he asked me to see if anyone else i knew would be interested in buying the kit because it is much cheaper than most kits i've seen. its all steel, 3" piping, coated in any color for $250 (including regular and black chrome). he says that he designed it to be all bolt on with the exception of having to modify something by the fog lights to get the intercooler to fix (not the crash bar, i asked that specifically). i'm gonna try to get some pics of it tomarrow and maybe get pics of the vr4 he put it on. i can't afford $1000 for an intercooler right now but if there's anyone here that might be interested in talking to him i can get you his number.
i've never been to this shop before last saturday so i can't vouch for its reputation. the garage was filled with cars of questionable taste (ricers) but the guy i talked to seems to know his stuff. he says if i could get him 5 buyers he'd take a couple hundred bux off of the price of the kit but unless he'd take like 50% off, i can't afford it right now anyway. how does this price compare to custom bent piping + intercooler?
i'd also like to post on 3si about it but i'm not sure what their policy on pimping merchandise. can someone enlighten me?

I got mine for $850 with 3" piping and 3" core that fits just like what you where saying behind the bumper/crash guard and you have to move the fogs.. but I bought mine from a guy that just bought it for 1200 and then blow up his motor and Just wanted to get rid of it.. I got all the pipes powder coated and my valve cover for 50 bucks too.. they did a really good job

hm, i thought $1000 was a pretty good deal but i wasn't too familiar with what most people were paying. i've seen the kits on sites like 3sx go for over $2000.

ebay FTW. You can get pipes, a core, and t-bolts for maybe half that.

eh, still gonna hold off on the front mount for awhile i think. i've got some credit card that i need to pay off and i need to get the throw out bearing in my tranny fixed, which is probably gonna cost a pretty penny. i'd also like to get my windows tinted for the summer. its actually warming up over here in WA pretty good.
also, on deftracing.com they show a listing for a victory hood for a 1g but its not on yet. any word on iff that's gonna come out for 1g's? when? i'm torn as to whether i'd like to get a vented hood or a FMIC when i get some play money.

Its a front mount intercooler... stock tt's have two rather limmited SMIC or side mount intercooler.. if you plan on turning your boost up.. i think that this is a must.. you have to make sure your not dumping tunz of hot air into your engine..

I actually prefer buying the core from custom coach. They're quality is way better than ebay and the price is still good. My monster FMIC I bought for $400 from them. They did have the entire set up with the pipes for around if i remember correctly $700, not sure if they still do it or not. I had to make my own pipes anyways to fit around the auto tranny. I just ended up buying steel pipes and had them powdercoated chrome so that they look polished.
