Codes on a 2.8 MPFI

What kind of scanner do i need to read codes off my car. 89, 2.8, MPFI. I have been getting the SES light a bit lately and would like to know what to do. Is it OBD I or OBD II? Where is the diagnostic port? What is a good brand of scanner for a low price?

The diagnostic link connectgor is under the dash dirver's side, usually to th e right of the steering column.

Cheap scanner = paperclip.

The Quick Paper Clip Test
To see which trouble code or codes are being set in your cars ECM, jumper the A and B pins of the 12 pin OBD1 connector with a paper clip. While the car is off, sitting still, turn the ignition key forward while this jumper is in place. Do not start the car. The Service Engine Soon ( SES ) light will flash in a repeating sequence, telling which trouble codes have been set in the ECM.
