d15b2 pistons

Alright guys.

Im just about finished with the MPFI conversion on my 88 DX. Next I wanna strengthen the bottom end with some forged pistons (stock bore) and rods for a turbo build. To my understanding they don't sell them specifically for a d15, but I read that i can use them from a ZC? Which I would assume would mean I can get them from a crx si also? I think ZC compression is lower which would be to my liking. Can any of you guys suggest a piston/rod combo? I don't really have a budget at this point, i'll spend what I need to, to get the right stuff.

I'd say its really not worth building a b2 bottom end. Just pick up an A6 block and build it for turbo.

Actually, zc pistons are higher compression.

I thought the b2 and a6 blocks were pretty much identical... Anyway, I'm sure somebody probably still sells a6 forged pistons and rod combos or get the a6 block and buid it up like CRXperiment said. If you want na look around for p29 pistons out of a d16a9? and put them in your exising block. Better run 93 octane though or BOOM!

yea i was hoping b2 and a6 internals were interchangeable. can anyone verify this? I would prefer to not have to swap, i kinda wanna stick it out with the b2.

Just to look into it though. Were can I get a d16? Its the one engine I havent found on the internet. Havent searched junkyards yet, but someones gotta sell some.

Well you havent been searching hard enough. People use them as paperweights there so abundant.

eh Thought about it, just doesnt seem practical to swap. My d15 only has 120k on it and runs mint. Not gonna gamble getting a headache of a motor with 200+k miles on it, for the extra 16hp. Not that its not a significant gain but it just doesnt seem worth it. Im just gonna finish converting to mpfi and boost. I do plan on using an Si tranny though.

If you boost a stock d15b2, even with some piggy back FMU be ready to kiss your con-rods goodbye...

thats why I was looking for some forged rods and pistons before i boost. Im currently looking for info on which pistons and rods I can use but im coming up with nothing.

What diff does it make if your motor has 120k, you said you want to change the rods and pistons and tear it apart anyway. Since your gonna tear it up and throw in new pistons and Im assuming rings, rod bearings etc. to complement your setup, it really doesn't matter that you only have 120k. On top of that, its a b2, if you seriously want my opinion just keep it for good gas mileage and reliability.

i definetly see were your coming from on that. I really cant find a d16 for under 500$ though, which at that point I would be better off going ZC. If you know of a reputable place were i can get one at a reasonable price I would apreciate the info.

If you mean a sohc zc than you're wrong because it only has a couple extra ponies than a d16a6. You can swap in a more aggressive cam into an a6 and have more power than a jdm sohc zc. There are tons of little things you can do to an a6 to make more power... z6 head gasket raises cr a few points, aftermarket cam, pulleys, flywheel, forged internals and BOOST! I was on my way to going that route but the car didn't seem like a good candidate so I just sold the whole thing and wiped my hands of it. I recommend that if you're going to build a motor for boost, get a junked a6 from a yard and put it together while enjoying the benefits of good gas mileage from your b2.
