The mechanic I took my car to said I need to get one directly from the Mitsu shops, being that any other ones wont work on our char and will go out. Is he true?

Thats crap. I had a bad IAC and got a used one off Ebay. It's been running fine for months now. If you want a new one, there's some vendors that sell then for much cheaper than any dealer would sell, although I can't remember where I saw them at. I would recommend getting the newer black 1 piece IAC's though, as I hear the old 2 piece tan ones are defective to a degree. I see them on Ebay all the time, some new, some used, but getting a used IAC probably isn't a bad idea... I did, and it works fine. saves a hell of a lot of money too, I got mine for $10.00

partially true. yes, you'll need to get an OEM ISC. however, other Mitsu cars use the same ISC such as the DSM cars. but, since these parts tend to go bad with age, i would NOT recommend pulling an ISC from an equally old car. the dealership will charge you about $300-$400 for one. however, there are places you can get them cheaper for $132 or $185.
