hi its sue1293

i know this is a dump question but where is the thermostat in a 1996 cavalier

is it in the bottom hose or the top

and the other promblen iam having heat sentor gause goes to very hot n ive been told that there to much presure in the sirge tank thats why i am losin antifreeze from under the cap


please help thanks sue

(1)Thermostat is at the T-junction hose right before the water pump.

(2). Your system needs to be bled if you have air in it. (or your T-stat isn't opening, causing the pressure in the tank)

Either way, you'll have to bleed the system if you replace the T-stat.

You can bleed it by running the engine to operating temp. Shut the engine off, then open the bleed screw slightly until air stops exscaping and fluid runs out the screw. The screw is located on a metal tube that runs along the front of the engine from the water pump T junction to the driver side firewall, and it should have a label on it specifying "do not bleed system while engine running" or something like that.
