I have a '04 Mazda MPV. Love the car, but I've had to take it to the dealer three times in the past four months because of burnt out ignition coils. It's the fourth time in the past sixteen months! Has anyone else had this problem? THe dealer swears there's no systemic or design flaw (surprise!), I'm not sure I believe it anymore.

the problem with the coils is internal . I believe the insulation around the coil seperates and it causes the soldering inside of the coil to melt and slowly seperate causing the misfire because of poor conection .The problem has been updated with revised coils that end in part number AC the problem is that ,at the dealer you are supposed to only address the misfiring coil so as much as you hate to bring it in for the concern. its fustrating for the techs who love to fix it right the first time.and satisfy the customer ,.

We have an '04 as well and we have just put our 2nd one on. My wife asked if there is a problem with them and the service guy said "yes". Then she said "you should fix the rest while you have it in " and they said they can't. We have 69,000 kms on the van and the warranty is gone at 80,000 kms. I bet these coils arn't cheep.
