Hey,

I have a 97 Z24 with the 2.4L twin cam, and its blown, 3rd motor at that. How hard would it be to buy a 2.2L Ecotec and throw it in? ANyone know the steps and all the things I would need to do it and have it running? thanks

You couldnt figure out how to remove your headlights and you're asking how hard a motor swap would be?

damn, easy lance.....lets just say he has a point, and if the above stated is true, pretty hard then. u would need all the obvious stuff, motor mounts, ecu, wiring harness, and on and on. and i dunno if the auto tranny matches up with the eco, so u might need a new one of those. it would proly be less of a headache, and easier on the wallet if u just found another 2.4 to stick in there. just my 2 cents

okay, i just dont trust these quad 4's anymore, my car has been through 3 of them, first one had 138K, second had 186K and this one had 178K......................now the replacement one i found has 115.............maybe I should sell the z24 and buy an acura integera? Honda makes decent engines that last..........

i dont blame u, but the reason they havent lasted is bc they have so many miles on them. the 115 shouldnt be too bad, but the donor car can tell alot about the engine. if the car is in bad shape, the engine proly is also. and dont go buy a honda, if u want an ecotec, the kbb on my 03 is only like 5900 so go find you a good one.

Yes honda does make some long lasting engines, a 92-98 civic is cheap and long lasting...

might as well stick with throowing that twin cam with 115 on it, lol......has more Horsepower than the 2.2 ecotec, but ecotec wont blow......and we can throw the 2000+ corners and headlight assemblies into our older styles? Id like my 97 to have the big corners and heads......

The real question would be to ask yourself. Is it worth it?

Hey u know i just got a rebuilt 2.4L put in my Z24 and it cost me 2,800 and its a brand new engine with no kilometers. If you do the work your self it would be cheaper and its going to run fine for a long time.
The power difference from my old engine to thisd new one was incredible. No changing of parts nothing, just take out and put in and voila you got a new engine. So reply at your earliest convience.

He is talking about swapping the engine and not replaceing it. Little harder then just buy it and drop it in.

a 2.4 will go if you don't keep the oil topped right up and cahnge it regularlay, #3 bearing goes out. they can last a long time I know a girl with 350,000km on a sunfire (220,000miles) only just died on her.

I always kept my oil filled. and changed every 5000 or less, both motors that went had 180,000KMs approx. Same fate for both, same symptoms and end result. These motors just don't hold up..not to mention whenever I would stomp thhe gas off a light it would rev up to 6-7k rpm and then go into second, this is an automatic, always did it since the day it was put in.....always seemed to rev high wehn you floored it....I put on a shiftplus, I thought it brought the rev down and shifted it at lower rpms but it didnt, all it felt like is it pushed the car forward between shifts, and one hell of a clunk when you shifted with it on stage 2 and sometimes stage 1.....and my tranny is rebuilt few months back so its not that..........in conclusion 2.4's are junk and this replacement one from the wreckers I don't expect it to last evena year......

i don't understand why you are having so much trouble. I know many many people who haven't had this issue with 2.4 including myself. as for the shifting high, if you floor it it qwill do that it's a 4 cylinder and make all it power at the top end.
