rear axle

we got into an accident where a car slammed into the passenger side door of our F150 2003 truck. the back rear axle looks like it's bent back because the tire looks like it was pushed towards the back (on the passenger side). Do you think it's just the rear axle, and if yes, how much would it cost? would we have to change the entire differential or just the axle? The shop is not open till Monday so if we can get estimates now it would ease a little of the anxiousness. Thanks ahead for the help.

Stick a yard stick or a very straight piece of metal against the rear end tubing that goes from the differential to the wheels, it should be flat up against it, if the tubing is bent you will see it.

What it will cost will depend on what is wrong and how much the shop is willing the charge you to fix it, prices will vary, get at least three estimates for your insurance company (unless they take care of that for you).

Your frame may also be bent from the impact which then shifted the rear end, hard to say though, repair shop should be able to tell you.
