Low oil pressure at idle

HELP!!!

Hey guys, I usually post in the muscle car and Pontiac forums, but I have an unusual problem with a customer's engine.

It's an '02 model Ram with the 4.7 OHC engine. We put a crank kit and new rings in it, along with a new oil pump.

The engine runs well, and oil pressure is fine when cold. Once hot, at idle, it drops to 5 lbs. Clearances were checked and are good. Is there an adjustable oil pressure relief valve hiding in there somewhere? I cannot find an "exploded view" (save the jokes...) of this engine showing all the parts.

Does anyone know of a TSB covering this? Or maybe just some good ol' insight?

Jim

I laughed when I got to the exploded view part.

Have you been able to determine whether the pressure is actually dropping, as the guage might just be buggered or the sensor has had it.

My '99 had the engine sludge up so bad that it had no pressure, but you have changed the pump so I'm assuming the pickup tube isn't blocked and restricting flow. I think the pickup tube and screen in the magnum engines at least are of poor design, I don't know what the ones in the 4.7's look like though.
