No Fire

Well I have a no fire problem here guy's and gal's. I replaced my 98 ram 3.9 v6 and this has been an going project for a month now and i thought i'd button up everything so i thought. hers my list checked items: new dist. wires, plugs,coil,new test light for plugs,fuel pressure is up,fuel pump working,fuse good in the truck and relays are clicking on and off,30 amp fuse's for the engine control and ignition are good (ohm and pulled apart).:banghead: :banghead: :banghead: :banghead: :banghead: :banghead: :banghead: :banghead: :banghead: :banghead: :banghead: :screwy: :screwy: :screwy: :screwy: :screwy:

so you replaced your engine? If thats the case you need to reprogram your computer.

reprogram the ecm??? what gives. why would i have to do that for? I replaced motors on my 62 impala,67 firebird,91 amigo,01 f150,98 explorer and never had to reprogam the ecm or computer. now I've never own a dodge until now so what gives??????

the computer is programmed for each specific motor after I think 1994. Any time you switch out it needs to be sent oout and reprogrammed. Just like if you order a chip you need to send that out as well and egt it programmed for your specific vehicle. Just like if your computer craps out you need to order a new one and send the old one so they can transfer everything over. Not too sure why or how it works but I remember on another forum I am on that they are programmed. So might be something to check into. If your trying to use your old computer with a new engine I am not positive it will fire up. Its just how the new computer crap is setup.

Crank position sensor is what the problem probably is. I'm sure of it.

Take it from someone who knows, when I replaced my engine the pcm was never touched. If a V6 is what the truck had, that's all it needs to run. You would only have to reprogram or change the computer if you were going from a V6 to a V8, or a diesel. Everything crazys182003 said in this thread is pretty much incorrect.

alright well like I said in my second post I was sure but not fully positive. Been trying to figure out if I misunderstood or not and haven't gotten verification anywhere so if you have done it then I stand corrected.

Okay now that sounds better as to what is happening, but I can't remeberif I put a new one in or my helper did. too much time has passed. were would it be if I were to look for it? I know some are by the crank like ford. dodge I have no clue...

Another thing is the Cam Sensor (aka Pick-up Coil), it is located under the distributor cap. When I replaced my 5.2L in my jeep the wire for the Cam Sensor got caught between the engine and tranny and when I tightened everything up it just cut right through the wire. I woudl start by checking the wires of the Cam Sensor. Could of also damaged the crank sensor when you pt the engine in. The crank sensor bolts to the passengerside of the engine block behind the cylinder head. real PITA to replace.

Nope. no go the sensor I replaced was pass. side of motor and it was straight up and beside the distributor and still no fire. Maybe the wrong sensor??????

I think the sensors you are reffering to that you replaced was the OIl Pressure Switch.

now I think I set the time wrong. what is the proper firing order and what is the hole numbers on a dodge v6 driver 123 pas 456?????????

hole # Driverside front to back 135, passengerside front to back 246

not sure aboutthe firing order though, the 318/260 is 1,8,4,3,6,5,7,2.
