The check engine light is on in my 1996 Siverado. The truck is not registered to drive on the road, so I am going to need to read the code from home. I need info on what kind of code reader is used on these trucks. Also a price range and any other suggestions on how to analize would be appreciated!

Thanks
Paul

If you want to just read the codes, you need something like this http://www.actron.com/product_detail.php?pid=16298 which I think I paid around $50 on sale. Autozone may allow you to rent one.

too bad they went to OBD-II by then.
i heard they're coming out with an even more convoluted system, like OBD-III or something.
scary.

Price them and most auto parts stores sell them. They going to come out with OBD III and I heard about it.The changes are these:Arrest warrents if not fixed right away and the vehicle will be shut off, that is I heard from a Vetronix scan tool rep years ago
