I'm new to the forum as well as a new car owner. Just bought a 2000 accord and the engine light comes on and stays on for a few weeks and then goes off again. I checked the code, its p1259. I read on this forum that it may be the vtec oil pressure switch so i ordered one for $10. Now, the only problem is i can't find a manual for my car, and i'm not very mechanically inclined, so i have no idea where to put this bloody thing.

Before replacing parts make sure your oil is at a correct level. As far as I remember the VTEC solenoid uses oil pressure to operate.

If you still decide to replace it, mine is located at the rear top part of the engine at the level of the valve cover. Passenger side. I drive 99 LX. Yours might be different.

Good luck,

Sam

right now, the oil level is good and the light is off, so that may be it or it may just be a coincidence. My car burns oil like a mother, and i'm pretty sure the light has been on when the oil is good, however i'll make sure the oil stays topped up and wait to see if the light comes back on.

Thanks

Your low oil light kicks on at about 5 psi.The vtec pressure switch needs to see 15 psi or more or the ecm will not turn on the vtec spool valve. So it will throw that code before the low oil light kicks on.

Getting the switch was not a bad idea.Lets say you have a cut wire(the ground or the ecm input wire) the code would come on every time you started the car no mater what.

So you have one of three things going on 1 low oil 2 intermittently failing switch or 3 a plug in the oil passage going to the vtec psi switch.

Lets say its #3 bg makes an engine flush that works you will need to get 2 oil filters and read the instructions on the back of the can,#1 and #2 are an easy fix.
