help changing transmission

ok guys and girls... i really need help on changing my tranny. i wanted to know if anyone had a walktrough or any pics on how to do this... i also need ot know how to be able to tell if my clutch is still good or not, how to torque everything down and all... so any help would be appreciated.

A service manual is your very best friend. But you are looking at a pretty big job which you wont be able to do with 99 cents store tools. Also you might as well change your clutch since you dug in there anyway plus have your flywheel resurfaced. You can pick up decent OEM clutck kits off ebay for like 85 bucks shipped.

thanks i still want to know how to tell if a clutch is still good or not... i was also wondering if i have a stage 2 clutch should i put it in or just wait. could i put it in with a stock flywheel or not

what he is saying is whether or not the clutch that is currently on there is any good, you should change the clutch. Why do all that work now to blow a clutch a short time from now? If you have done it before its easy but since your asking about a write up and stuff chances are you don't now what your up against, or what order to do things to make it fast and easy. Definately change the clutch..if your wanting to go to a stage 2 or something grabbier, go for it ..

take out you axels, unplug all the plugs on you wirring harness that will get in the way, take off your air intake, unbolt the tranny from the front, back, and side motor mounts, unhook your shift linkage, unbolt the tranny from the engine and lower to the ground, get a new clutch. and get your flywheel machined or get a lightweight one. i just put in a 8 lb and love it. make sure you have a 10mm and a 17mm 12 point socket, you'll need it to get the pressure plate and flywheel off. and make sure you get a clutch alignment tool with your new clutch. put it all back together. soooo easy.

Either use one of the service manuals floating around the web, or go down to the parts store and pick up a Haynes/Chiltons. If you pull just the tranny, watch how much pressure ends up on the Drivers side motor mount because if you get too much pressure on it, you will bust it, I know, I have done that before.

I, myself, find it just as easy to pull the motor out with it. Not too much extra work, and its much easier to stab a tranny with the motor sitting out of the car. The only extra you have to do to pull the motor is unhook your radiator and vacuum hoses, fuel line, electrical plugs on both sides of the engine bay, throttle cable and a motor mount. Takes me longer to type this than it does to unhook everything.
